other than #1, they're in no particular order: 1. Die Hard -- easily the best action movie ever..a believable character and a great, tight script 2. Seven -- literally had a physcial reaction i was so scared...and disturbed! 3. Good Will Hunting 4. Dead Poets Society 5. When Harry Met Sally 6. Training Day 7. Star Wars Trilogy -- today, Empire is my fave..but as a kid, i just loved them all! 8. Raiders of the Lost Ark 9. Fletch 10. Caddyshack 11. Rushmore 12. Do the Right Thing 13. Mo Bettah Blues -- something about this movie...not really recognized, but i really liked it 14. Gladiator 15. Goodfellas
#1 Tombstone #2 Armeggedon #3 Boilerroom #4 American Outlaws #5 American Graffiti #6 First Blood #7 To kill a mockingbird #8 Varsity Blues #9 Pulp Ficition #10 Wall Street
why is it everyone thinks Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars movie? does everyone just like to see Harrison Ford frozen in Carbonite?
i think it's the one most geared toward adults...there's actually some character development...it's not special effects driving a movie, it's a great story that is assisted by the help of some great special effects. it's ultimately tons darker than the others, which doesn't necessarily make it better...just different. but when i watch all 3, i think empire is clearly the best of them.
1)Planet of the Apes(All) 2)Star Wars(all) 3)Shawshank Redemption 4)The Matrix 5)12 Monkeys 6)Fight Club 7)Big Lebowski 8)American Pie(both) 9)The One(Just seen it) 10)The Omen(all) I can go on and on but those are cool
Has anyone seen the movie Thursday??? I LOVE that movie but I don't know a single other person who has seen it
Wow, this is tough....I got to go with: The Big Chill Amadeus Animal House The Matrix And of course, my all time favorite, the movie I've seen over 150 times (honestly), the one movie I can quote the entire script, is.... ...come on, take a guess... ...anybody who has been here awhile has seen me quote this movie throughout entire threads.... ...I shall give you 5 guesses " 3 sire" "Oh right...3 guesses"...
1. Dr. Strangelove 2. Fight Club 3. American history X 4. The Godfather 5. Pulp Fiction Of course, 3-5 on that list change constantly. #1 is a fixture, and #2 is almost always in the top 5, at least. moestavern: In addition to what others have already said... A New Hope was too focused on Luke, who wasn't as interesting, especially in that movie (he got depth later). Return of the Jedi had Ewoks. #2 is best by default .
Dr. strangelove Breakfast club Empire strikes back Awakenings Oh brother where art thou this is a real hard list to make. I loved High Fedelity, hoosiers is the best basketball movie ever made, although the sixth man is a close second . I think my last two rotate with other movies, it just depends which one I saw most recently
In no particular order: Fight Club - Do I need a reason? Dogma - An interesting take on religion Seven - What's in the box? The Shawshank Redemption - Nice twist at the end Chasing Amy - Lesbians are cool Instinct - Very deep philosophical ideas behind the average plot A.I. - Made me think about technology and ethics in a different light 12 Monkeys - A different movie the second time Brazil - Each time I watch it I get something new out of it Clerks - Edgy humor and a great first try for KS American Beauty - Suburbia sucks American History X - Good perspective on racism American Pie - Lightweight sex comedy 6th Sense - Nice twist makes a second viewing fresh B
1) The Swawshank Redemption ( My personal favorite ) I’m really surprised at the amount of people on this board that love this movie. I always recommend it to people, most of them haven’t herd of it. I must of watched it 50 times. 2) The Godfather ( I & II ) 3) Star wars ( 4 & 5 ) 4) E.T. 5) Wizard of Oz To many more to list.
Is there anyone else who didn't think American History X was really about racism? I mean, obviously, racism sucks. But if that's the point of the movie... well, thanks, but no thanks, for that amazing insight. To me, in short, the movie was about the narrative of a man's life. And racism just happened to be the outlet for his bitterness and angst against a society that wasn't completely fair. I think the movie is much more meaningful if observed from this perspective.
I didn't mean to imply that is what I thought the movie was totally about. I was just trying to come up with one liners for each movie. American History X is a very deep movie and to limit it to one area does it an injustice. I really appreciated the growth that Edward Norton's character made in the movie. I thought it was a great way to show how much someone can change their view points, yet how difficult it can be for others to accept the change. And the ending really showed how much things do suck, but I won't talk about it so I don't give anything away to those who haven't seen it yet. Haven, did you really expect in depth insight in a Top 5 movie list thread? Maybe it would have been better if I just kept it to a list with no comments. B
In no order (after Citizen Kane): Citizen Kane! La Dolce Vita Lawrence of Arabia Dr. Strangelove Singing in the Rain The Third Man Casablanca Manhatten The Palm Beach Story The Searchers Top Hat Rushmore Midnight Cowboy Chinatown Pulp Fiction Short Cuts Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? It's A Wonderful Life Godfather I & II Taxi Driver Trainspotting Hold on..only five were asked for..d'oh! I'll stop..and I didn't even mention my favorite Hitchcock film, "Shadow of a Doubt!" 1) Die Hard. nothing is better than watching this movie with someone who's never seen it before. preferably a girl, and then we get naked. this movie is joy in its purest form. I've seen it maybe 200 times, and it never gets old. 2) The Professional. I didn't read all the responses carefully enough to see if anyone mentioned this movie. I fell in love watching this movie. 3) The Shawshank Redemption. it really hit a chord with a lot of people. I think it's a believable story about hope. maybe that's what it is. but it's not just this bbs. look at the imdb Top 250. it's been doing well on that list for years. 4) Almost Famous. the most recent movie to crack the Top 5. this one more for just personal reasons. it's the closest movie I've seen to being about me. oddly enough, I've been both william miller and jeff bebe. plus, kate hudson's nipples. 5) Rushmore. I vacillate about this 5th spot, but I can't try to sleep on this movie. if I'm going to have a Top 5, I need all 5 movies to fill a unique and particular slot or role, and they don't come any uniquer than Rushmore. what'd you think, mr. littlejeans? 6) *tie* Unbreakable, The Kid and 12 Monkeys. along with Die Hard, these 3 films form the Mt. "Rushmore" of Bruce Willis' greatness.
