Maybe they can get some Black and Gold uniforms. that is what the league needs!!! some new 'AINTS Rocket River realistically they will become my second favorite team
Locally they are referred to as "The Bugs." Shall they be referred to as "The MudBugs" once in New Orleans?
I'll prob end up going to more Hornets games than houston being as i live in Louisiana I suppose i'll just have to make it to the hornets- rockets games
First, let me say that this is the nicest NBA website I've ever seen. I help run http://www.NewOrleansHornets.com and am a native of New Orleans so obviously I'm a bit biased on this but I believe having New Orleans in the NBA will be a plus. It's unfortunate that it comes at the expense of Charlotte (although the Charlotte fans I've met are very arrogant and rude) but New Orleans was unceremoniously ripped of it's NBA franchise 23 years ago (?Utah? Jazz). New Orleans has already sold more season tickets in the shortest amount of time than any expansion/relocation franchise in history so there are a lot of rabid basketball fans in the Crescent City. I believe that it would be best to move New Orleans to the Western Conference and send Memphis to the Eastern Conference. This would help to create geographical rivalries between New Orleans and Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and also put the Hornets in the same conference as the much hated and mis-named Utah "blech" Jazz. Furthermore, New Orleans would be a great place for the All-Star game. We put on the best Superbowls (and the most) and I'm sure we'll bring that festive atmosphere to the All Star game. I hope this post isn't seen as filled with hubris, I am just proud of my city and trying to counter the negative articles about the proposed relocation in the national media. I look forward to watching the New Orleans Hornets play the Houston Rockets next season.
I hope you're right about switching the Hornets and the Grizzlies. The obvious geographic rivalries seem like it would prompt such a move, especially since both franchises are relatively new. Welcome to the board. You'll always be welcome as a Jazz hater!
I know this is a dumb question but why don't they change the stupid names after they move the teams? Memphis Grizzlies? Utah Jazz? like they play music in Utah (kidding) I mean they changed the Bullets to be PC so it's obviously not an impossible task though what you'd name Memphis is beyond me Utah's pretty easy but i'd get into trouble.....
It should be the T-Wolves who go East assuming the Hornets move to the Big Easy. Memphis is still close enough to be a potential rival (assuming they ever get good enough to pay attention to) while the T-Wolves are up there closer to Eastern teams like Chicago and Milwaukee and whatnot. Sure Memphis is further East than Minneapolis, but still......
Thanks for the welcome, all. The reason that the Jazz name was never changed is because the owner, Sam Battistone, was pretty cheap. He already had a stock of Jazz merchandise and it was in his best financial interests to keep the name to get rid of the merchandise (I guess he just taped over the "New Orleans" part?). Moving the T-Wolves would be a good move as well, I hadn't thought of that. Back to the 'name' subject. It would really be a natural for Utah and New Orleans to switch names because Utah is the "bee state" if I'm not mistaken. But I don't think that'll ever happen. The Jazz nickname has too much history in Utah apparently.
