It's a little different, because Wallace is a shotblocker, and he has a tremendous vertical leap, a lot bigger than KT's. But I for one do not think KT is too small, I think he will develop into a key player for us.
Wallace is playing PF anyway. He played center last year, this year Cliff Robinson is playing center for the Pistons with Zelly Rebraca getting the majority of backup minutes. Ben sees only spot minutes at C.
Wallace is closer to 6'10. He is definitely taller than 6'8. I saw him guarding Abdur-Rahim and they were the same size. Rahim is 6'10.
Ben Wallace is not 6'10, I remember during a TNT/TBS game they had him standing next to Danny Ainge and they were around the same height I believe, with Wallace maybe being a couple inches taller.
Wallace is 6'8, but plays like he's 7'. Kenny's 6'7, and plays like he's 6'7. Keep in mind that Charles Barkley was 6'4, but you never noticed it until the latter portion of his career, while he was playing. Also, Wallace is in the East. If he had to face the same caliber of competition at the C/PF spots... he might not be as effective day in and day out.
I saw an interview with him last night. I think He said he was 6'8 with his hair braided and 7'0 with his fro out. anyone see it?
Cliff Robinson is playing center?????? I seem to remember him playing small forward and hitting threes.
Well, he guards the centers, he's listed at center in the lineup card and everyone on the team says, "Cliff's our center." So, yeah, I'm going with Cliff's playing center. Not a very traditional one, but he's been effective against almost everyone. He's always (well maybe not the first couple seasons) played some center as well as PF and SF.
28 rebounds and 6 blocked shots. He's been an awesome defensive player for some time. Ever wonder why Orlando won 40 games with a no-name roster a couple years ago, and hasn't gotten much better since despite adding a superstar (McGrady)? Ben Wallace is the reason. The Magic had to let him go to clear the cap room for TMac.
That was kind of a formality the teams worked out after it became apparent Hill & TMac were going to sign with ORL, and DET was going to use its cap room from losing Hill to sign Wallace. Technically, TMac came over in a trade from Toronto, too. The point is, Orlando made a conscious decision to sacrifice Wallace in order to sign TMac and Hill. And even though TMac is one of the top 5-10 players in the league, it turns out that he's only slightly more valuable than Wallace.
I would say a player that puts up 25 ppg, 7.6 rpg 5.2 apg 1.5 spg, and a block a game is a hella lot more valuable than one putting up 7.4 ppg 12.4 rpg, 1.6 spg and 3.3 bpg. Wallace is a good role-player, but not even close to being as great as McGrady is.
Actually, Orlando lost Ben Wallace because they chose Bo Outlaw over him. During the whole Grant Hill and McGrady shopping spree Orlando had a couple free agents of their own they wanted to keep. But, when the cap numbers came in they had to make a choice between Bo Outlaw and Ben Wallace (since they weren't going to give up McGrady or Hill). While Orlando was hemming and hawing Detroit went hard at Wallace and convinced him they wanted him bad. Then the sign and trade and Ben in Orlando was history. If they had just gone after Ben and convinced him he was an essential piece to them, they'd have McGrady, Hill and Ben Wallace. And, finalsbound, yeah Cliff's played Shaq. It wasn't pretty, but no one really looks good against Shaq. Ben was awesome today. He actually did play center today as Detroit put Cliff on Walker so that Ben would be free to roam and destroy. Worked well, I think.
So do you think a player like Wallace (as well as Jahidi White) will cause teams to rethink the C position? In other words, with the lack of talent at the position now, do you think teams will start becoming creative at C and concentrate on players capable of playing the position instead of obsessing over dimensions? And do you think that, at the lower levels of basketball in particular, there will be a movement of sorts to find players capable of playing the position instead of looking high and low for the next, great 7fter? Remember, some of the league greatest Cs weren't much taller than Wallace (Willis Reed, Bob Petit, Dave Cowens), and they were able to display their full games (jump shooting, driving, running the floor) in addition to their post duties.
absolutely Live would houston be better with Antonio Mcnugget at C or Cato the true C? btw has anyone noticed the inspired play of Juwan Howard? He's never lived up to his contract, but he's not Kevin Garnett. It seems like he's making it a point to prove to Dallas he's better than Raef. I think he's pissed
