Well, you guys saw the front page. What kind of value does Bryce Drew have and what could we get for him?

Let's assume for a second that Drew will be moved along with our trade exception (the front page indicated as much). That means he basically has to be moved to a team that is looking to clear up some cap space, or for a player with an out-of-whack contract that another team is looking to dump (I believe someone already touched on this point...heypartner, maybe?). That's all I have to add to this discussion right now, since I don't know at the moment what teams/players meet that criteria. Hopefully those that follow can contribute that information.

What about dealing him, Walt and the 4.5 exception. Maybe we could a get a solid sign and trade deal.

I say keep him. He's an awesome shooter and runs a good half court game. I think he's still trying to find his niche in a changing squad. I wouldn't trade him for a draft pick. We're a draft team anyways, and we have plenty of young guys (remember Drew being one of the 3 from the Kevin Willis trade)? Trade Moochie Norris since his stock has gone up pretty high. Can probably get more for Moochie than Bryce anyways. Add Carlos Rogers in there with the Wiz, TMass. Let's get a good power forward who can start and finish, play the post, keep Bryce for the outside shots... he's got that killer floater anyways.

    Waiting for the Parade,

Bryce may be left "waiting for the parade" if you expect him to fit in here and get quality minutes. We have Francis and Moochie at the point as well as Shandon and Mobley at the SG. Mobley can also play the PG if needed and Francis can play the SG as well. From what I've seen Moochie is a pretty solid PG, so I don't see Bryce getting any minutes. Why have a kid with some talent on your bench doing nothing when you could trade him for a pick or another player?

    Trade him.

Moochie is more suited for our new style of play. Bryce will get quality minutes with a more half-court oriented team.

Keep him. He is a good developing player and has gotten solid minutes most of the season. I would not move him just to get rid of him. But if there is something good we could get for him then ship him out now. I just dont think we should move him for no good reason.

That's true. I wouldn't move him to move him, though. Only if we can upgrade our offense and defense. We knew in the draft that he's not quick off the dribble, but he's one damned good offensive machine. Played SG in college, one of NCAA's prolific scorers. Plays the best when he starts. Drew can actually be a starter, unlike Cato and Williams.

I'm just tired of seeing roster movements. Rockets are starting to look like someone's minor league, they come here to train and learn, then we ship them out. Cassell, Dickerson, Harrington, Tracy Murray, Pippen, EMail, and a couple more I can't think of.

I don't care what "kind" of team we are... there will be days when Run & Gun won't work and days where Post Up won't work, Pick and Roll don't work, One on One don't work... NBA teams are ready for any of these strategy.
Remember pre-season when Rudy said, you can't run all the time? You have to have a half-court game... run and gun if you can get defensive rebounds? Right now, our half-court game is one on one. At least throw the ball into the post once in a while to set up the guards like a triangle with back-cuts and everything.

If I were to build a team, I would have starters who can do a little of everything, and have bench players who are "specialists".

Don't understand why we need 12 Run & Gun guys. Can't Run & Gun when the other team is making shots. You end up doing half-court... and right now we suck at half court (except w/ One on One)... Cato don't play well if he's the first option w/ the ball. Kenny Thomas is getting to be pretty good though. Carlos Rogers spazzes out when he's 2 feet in radius from the ball.

We need some people who can play the Inside Out. Keep the other teams guessing. But you need people who can hit the 3 to do that, or do the pick and roll.

Too much individual play right now w/ the Rockets. I'm still going w/ keep Drew.

I think we should trade him because we are weak at two positions, small forward and power forward. We could get a great pick in the draft somewhere around #9, perhaps. We could use our own pick on a player like either Fizer or Swift because they bring a great low-post presence. Then with #9 we could get Chris Porter, another athlete to add to our long list. He doesn't play bad defense either, so he would probably take over the starting SF, moving Walt to the bench. Besides, there is no use having talent that you're not going to use, sitting on your bench.

The clock is winding down, and Scottie has the ball, Cato is sprinting towards him, Pippen shoots and here comes Cato. Man did you see that block?!!! Ouch it hit Scottie right between the legs. ITS FINAL!! THE ROCKETS ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF Y2K!!!

    Waiting,
Drew, a starter? You're right, lets just bench the Franchise and let this clone of Flopton lead us into the new millinium.

Trade him to either move WAY up in the draft, or to get a FA in the offseason.

He will be a good NBA player, and will not get the minutes as a Rocket that he needs to develop.

I'm aggree with Waiting for the Parade (what a cool name :). I think Drew is better backup PG than Moochie. Norris is a very good player but Drew is more trustworthy player than Norris.
You don't need ten players who can score 20 points per game each.

To be honest I don't think either drew or Norris are good enough backup point guards.

If either one of them has any market value then we should look to move them on in the summer.

Naw, I'm not saying that you bench Stevie Franchise in lieu of Drew, but what I am saying is that it may seem like Drew sucks/sucking because he doesn't have enough playing time, that's all... Now, do I think Steve and Bryce can/should be on the floor at the same time, of course! Consider it a Kenny Smith/Sam Cassell relationship. It's not to say that one is better than the other, but you do have different people filling in different roles and you keep the opposition guessing at who's gonna make the next basket and by what means.

For many reasons, I think Bryce Drew is SOOO much better than Kenny Smith, Maloney, and Brent Price, even though his game looks like these guys.

I think it would be a mistake to build a team around some idea so that your team has an identity. I just want to win. I don't care if we're Run & Gun, Post, Pick & Roll, whatever. Look at Philly and Iverson. Guard iso centered offense.

I think the Jordan, Pippen, Rodman combo has taught us that good teams are no longer 1 man dominates (i.e. Steve Francis). That's why Payton, Schrempf, and Kemp were good, that's why we tried Barkley, Hakeem, and Clyde. But good teams have people who are identified with one style... but they have the personnel to switch that style ASAP. I would hate to gut our team just to get another unproven draft pick with unsteady hand. But I know that we all of a sudden have a guard-rich team, and people will come and pilfer it just like they did when we had a forward-rich team in the preseason.

I think they should keep drew, and trade walt williams, because drew is a great backup for francis!
