Head has had some really great games, some really great moves to the basket, and then poof he disappears for 20 games - even when he is on the court. And then he has had some stretches of really boneheaded passes, but with no offsetting stretches of really great passing. So that is where I question him not trying to do too much - because just doing a good basic pass to a teammate seems like him trying to do too much at times. I also would like to see him get a confidence transplant, but I don't know where they would send him for that. A coupla months in ball handling school with JLucas the elder might help him. It is discouraging to the fan base to see him rattle off one great game, or fly in for one dunk, or hit some great 3's, and then suck for 3 weeks. Luther Cato?
I agree. I think I'm kinda unfairly lumping you in with the guys that are screaming that Head doesn't belong in the league and we should dump him the first chance we get. If the Artest experiment doesn't work out, and a few seasons later Barry retires, Head would most likely be the backup SG save for another Bonzi Wells or Brent Barry kind of signing. Which, is possible, but if we have Head as the backup SG, not neccesary. Head is a perfectly acceptable backup SG. And its the same thing as with Alston. While you want the best players possible, if we were in the situation where we HAD to play Head as our backup SG, its not a big deal. There would be more pressing needs for the team than fixing the backup SG problem if Head were the backup SG. Compare Head to Eddie House. Similar stats, similar hieght, similar lack of PG skills, yet Eddie House was a 20mpg player on a championship team.
Luther has a certain utility within the Rockets. show me the trade that'll make us significantly better and i'll be band leader for the anti-Head posse. until then, endlessly recanting the weaknesses in his game is boring. for the record, ev1 really watching knows he's; small for a 2 doesn't have the ball handling or decision making skills for a 1 etc he's unlikely to average anything close to last season's minutes (Barry). just show me the actual trade! Dude is a end of the bench situational possibility, at best, this year. oh yeah, he also small for a 2 & blah, blah, blah ....
i still don't understand why luther was drafted at 22 (?) in the first round. a few years later today, i believe most would agree he's an early second round kinda talent. that said, he can be quite useful in certain situations, especially in our system. plus, he's kinda cheap. i don't see a realistic trade out there minus maybe one for a drat pick or something like that. i also don't see why trading luther is our high priority right now.
24th pick I believe. And I remember him being praised alot in his rookie year. We all thought he was gonna be a really good player. Even now he is a decent player. Ima give him another chance to prove he has what it takes, if he fails, we will shun him.
I believe Carroll Dawson was responsible for drafting Head. Here are just some of the players that were still available at the time of our 24th pick in 2005: 1. Monta Ellis 2. Jason Maxiell 3. Linas Kleiza 4. David Lee 5. Brandon Bass 6. Ryan Gomes 7. Andray Blatche 8. Ronny Turiaf 9. Louis Williams 10. Amir Johnson I'd take any one of those guys over Head in a heartbeat. Yes, I know, hindsight is 20/20. That's why it's such a pleasure to now have a GM with enough foresight to avoid regretting things in hindsight.
Can someone pull a thread from the past about the thoughts of Luther head when he was drafted? or can someone tell me around what page number that would be please and thank you.
