The Grizzlies were a younger, more athletic team than the Rockets (not better). Next up, some real tests: Spurs, Celtics
yeah i was up there one time hoping for a rockets game but instead got a dallas game. sorry to say but you're in the wrong part of fox sw
You know how I know your gay?... Cuz you macramae'd yourself a pair of jean shorts. j/k i couldn't resist.
Just finished watching the 2nd half of the Jazz vs Lakers. Both teams looked a lot smoother than the Rockets, especially the Jazz (I apologize, just being honest). Both teams have great depth much like the Rockets. Jazz: Williams/Knight/Price Brewer/Korver Kirilenko/Harpring Boozer/Millsap Okur/Fesenko/Collins (probably their biggest weakness depth-wise again) Lakers: Fisher/Farmar Bryant/Vujacic Odom/Ariza/Walton Gasol/Radmanovic/Powell Bynum/Mihm/Mbenga Rookie C.J. Giles looked good, too, and would be yet another 6'10+ guy if he makes the team. The Jazz won without Boozer. The Blazers trampled the Kings who were w/out K. Martin and B. Miller. They have serious depth, too. The Mavs trounced an undermanned Wizards. Haven't seen the Hornets, Clippers, Nuggets yet but it's clear that the West is gonna be at least as tough as last season.
Very incouraging. It looks like from the box score that one of most favored player, Carl Landry, had himself a great night. I can't wait till tomorrow to watch the highlights and see what he did in action. Go Landry!!!
Preseason, it's only preseason. Brooks, good job at creating. Bad job at finishing. Landry was fantastic!
Eh... its really hard to make team to team comparisons from one pre-season game. It would be hard enough to make comparisons based on one regular season game really. In our case, Tmac is out. Yao looked like he didn't really even care (he got the ball maybe 3 times in the post in good position the entire game, if that). Artest is probably the only guy that looked normal. Plus, we weren't putting as much effort on defense, which is our true strength. The preseason is about your young guns and trying to figure out which combinations work.
But still, for the past 5 years the rockets offense has looked like a broken down car putt putting its way down the road. part of that is because having a guy like Yao slows the game down and secondly we are a terrible fast breaking team.
i'm almost glad i missed the first preseason game and likely won't watch any of them. trying to predict how our team will be in the preseason is ridiculous, especially with battier out and t-mac likely to take it easy. yao was rusty, but that was honestly expected. i'm just glad landry and the new additions look pretty good.
Enjoyed Artest cashing in on the long triples, but its just the preseason. It still bugs me how some in the media (probably everyone) thinks Artest is going to implode and cause problems. On another note, did anyone see blazers highlights, Oden is an absolute physical freak, he's moves people, quite impressive.
I had to follow the game on Radio with the aid of live boxscore...but even then it was still awesome...just to listen to my rockets! I thought Carl did awesome... what was our starters doing out there? we should have just let Joey and DJ run free and do their thing... and Aaron..Aaron did redeem himself somewhat in the end..4-11 is nothing to be happy with when you have to rely on things like Chuck giving you a nice assist. I love Aaron though...I model my own game after him(due to my height/size etc...although lightyears away from him skills-wise and speed-wise...) Can't wait for more Rockets games... but the game made me think...that Rudy Gay dude could be on our team...easily...he was OURS
I know it's just the 1st game of the preseason BUT 3 bench players that I saw alot in the 2nd half that I gotta make some critical notes on Aaron Brooks - still no PG passing vision. I'm not expecting Magic Johnson but he just does not have that sixth sense of what type of passes to do and when at the right time to do it. He's the one that I'm worried about cause he'll be counted on to get alot of backup minutes behind Rafer. Chuck Hayes - I don't know if he's regressed but he played like a scrub who all he's got going for is his hustle, but even that's not enough to overcome his scrubbiness. Sure he's a good one on one defender but his lack of sense of purpose on offense is still obvious. If I was Adelman I would stick Hayes deep on the bench and start developing Dorsey. Mike Harris - well you'll prolly be cut anyways, so I'll save the space and just say there's only one enough space for height challenged and limited skills players who survive on being energy guys on a roster and we already have Chuck Hayes. Rotation - Rafer, Tmac, Artest, Battier, Yao, Scola, Landry, Brooks, Barry, Head situational and in case of foul trouble - Hayes and Dorsey will battle for minutes, Strawberry for taller matchups wild card - Francis cya - Harris, Wafer GET OVER IT
head is too one-dimensional to warrant minutes especially with the talent we now have on this roster, barry>head
Funny thing is, Donte Greene was 4-11 as well, leading the Kings with 18 points. 2-6 from 3, and 8-10 from FT (pretty impressive FT shooter). Aaron needs some PG guidance, although his paint penetration is great, he lacks the PG vision to pass out. Sometimes I wonder how McGrady passes the way he does. He has one of those Steve Nash/Magic Johnson PG sense, but of course a lesser version of it. Still, it might change now that the Rockets have very good finishers.
Landry played well. I am glad we signed him long term. I have confidence he'll be an all star one day.
I think AB needs to be more of a scoring SG......a guy who can play with Barry or Tmac and bring the ball up, but use his speed to put pressure on the other team's defense. Ala...Calvin Murphy.....and on defense guard the other guys smaller player. DD
I totally agree with you on that. But the other thing I would point out is that the Rockets might want to look for a back point guard. T-Mac and Barry can play the point but Brooks needs to get himself together. I know it's preseason but damn. T-mac is more than likely going to be resting when Brooks comes in so they'll need someone to run the point. Not Luther Head either. Barry needs to be able to stay on the three point line to hit the open three.
I went to the game last night and saw Rudy Gay dunking on everyone. These guys behind me were hootin' and hollerin' and saying we should have kept him. Then in the final seconds when he had a chance to win the game- AIRBALL. I turned around and said that is why we didn't keep him. He is a terrific scorer around the basket, but I did not see one play where is defense stood out.
