    cabbman,

I'm curious about the postgame, as well. i'll take whatever postup evals I can get, though I'd prefer to see it myself! webber scored in the post, but was - in all honesty - a fundamentally atrocious postup player. I want to see if carl has added a legitimate postup game because with his athleticism, a fundamentally strong postgame would elevate his game (and the rox) exponentially.

His jumpers looked good in the 15 - 18 foot range about the same as where he took them last year. He looked the best of all the guys that played in my opinion better than Yao and better than Artest. His hops seem to be almost where they used to be about 90%. Had nice little jump hooks close to the basket and still finishes better than anybody in a Rockets Jersey.

Dorsey played a few minutes in the first half. He had one impressive defensive rebound that I can remember, but not much else. He got a technical for a slapping away a defenders hand.

If I recall, Morey said in the summer that he though Joey was someone who "could" contribute right away. I don't know if the expectation was we would be asking him to contribute right away, though. I imagine that was mainly gamesmanship on the GM's part to help in negotiations with Landry's agent.

I'm convinced this is our most potent lineup:
    PG: Tracy
    Wing: Battier
    Wing: Artest
    PF: Carl Landry
    C: Yao

When the money is on the line, that's what I'd like to see...
Carl looked good, very good. Hops are there. Shooting. Offensive rebounding. He even created for his teammates. He needs to be careful though. His kind of game needs coaching oversight, so that he doesn't get injured down the road. Don't want the same thing to happen this year as last year.

With a little belief, I can't see why he wouldn't be a Karl Malone type player with more hops, more energy.

Not sure if I agree with the details, but I agree in principle

All indications from this thread are that the post-up claims in the game thread were bogus. Not a problem though - it's not something necessary on this team.

I'm really excited about Landry. This guy is a gem that really alters the dynamic of this team.

I dunno. Carl had a great game tonight. And if this is going to be the Carl Landry for the rest of the year, than I'd rather have him coming off the bench for a scoring punch.

Landry looked like what he is. Healed, young, athletic and intuitive.

Even if he gets injured tomorrow I'd love to have some guys here gloat about how valuable Dorsey is, we didn't need this kid and how Morey screwed up.

We all know who you are.

My thought is almost the exact opposite. They way Landry is playing, he will eat up the scrubs that will be playing against him off the bench. He will cause all kinds of mismatch problems for the other team if he comes off the bench. Scola on the other hand, compliments Yao more with help D fense. He has an ugly but often effective jumper from midrange as well.
Lest we foget Scolandry from last year. That was our 2 headed monster. Landrola doesn't sound as sexy.

I disagree, remember last year in the playoffs? We need Rafer Alston for his defense and play making ability in the starting line up. Carl Landry I believe is very very close to being a star in this league. That guy has it all, and might be the brightest part of the rockets future. He will be sorta our James Posey 2.0 for this season at least.

    Agreed

    Brooks worries me.

He was out of control & undisiplined tonight. If he doesn't improve his decision making Morey will be looking @ other options for a back up PG.

I'm a noobie but have been a Rockets fan since they moved to Houston from San Diego.

I found myself wondering just how good Landry might be.

landry looked solid. i would like to point out mike harris. he did have 4 turnovers but ended up with nine rebounds. chuck hayes also looked to have improved his offense. it's tough to say which rocket worked the hardest this offseason.

Welcome, and I hope to read more from you.

I agree completely. Brooks looked shaky and easily frustrated through much of the game. But he did hit that big shot in the end. As great as his first step and penetration abilities are, he is not a good finisher at the basket which is a shame.

One of things I'm going to pay special attention to this year is missed layups. I can't believe all the layups we missed last season -- hopefully that's area we improve in this year.

Landry's post-up game is still shaky but his mid-range jumper is rock-solid. i like how hes calm and confident with his jumpers when the shot clock was waning down

If his mid-range shot is as good as he showed tonight, then I think he should start. Not because I think he's better than Scola, but because Scola can create his own shot and has post-game. And would make a good PF/C coming off the bench to replace Landry or Yao during the first substitutions.

I think a bench of Artest and Scola can really give us an advantage when the 2nd unit comes into the game. Of course, at the end of games, Adelman can always go with the lineup that provides the best matchup for the night.

His post up game right now is either go up immediately with a jump hook, or face up and either shoot the jumper or drive. What he's missing is the "backin' it in, backin' it in ..." and snazzy Scola-style foot work and up-and-unders. From a recent Rockets.com article, that's something he wants to take from Scola's game and add to his own.
