I'm looking for suggestions for a new tv. I'm going to start looking here in a week or so, with a price range of up to about $1500. I would also like to put it on a store credit card, and pay it off over a few months to establish more credit. So, which tv should I get? In your opinion is LCD or Plasma better? What stores have the best credit card programs (no interest for a year or something would be nice)?
You might get flamed for the following: 1. Not be a 'Contributing Member' which would lead to the following 2. Not being able to use the Search function and see that there are tons of threads already posted on the subject. Here is one on Page 2: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=146853 Now the thread title may be misleading but there is plenty of good good information in that thread on televisions.
I've had a 50" panasonic plasma for about 2 years! We play Wii and PS3 games on it all the time and have never had any issues with it. The TV has an is incredible picture. I vote Plasma!!
depends on how big you want your tv to be and what you mainly use your tv for. LCDs use less power and have less overall problems than plasmas Plasmas tend to have better picture quality (contrast/black levels) and better viewing angles, however use more power. Quality Brand and price-performance is what you should look at. So what store? Best Buy? Circuit City? Sears?
I was just saying...... In other news, my new TV's shipping is now delayed and probably won't ship until next week.
The Sharp right? hey so what do you have for dvd/bluray (ps3 right?)? did you get your hdbox yet? you have a sound system?
If you go to bestbuy this is the best deal on plasma at your price range: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8749438&type=product&id=1202649424626 for lcd: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8828637&type=product&id=1207957070072
Uh, black friday anyone? My daughter took my digital camera for a swim in the cooler during hurricane Ike time, so i'm replacing it on black friday.
Yeah, I ordered the Sharp. I have the PS3 for DVD and Blu-Ray. Have not contacted DirecTV yet but need to. No audio equipment yet.
LCD...no burn in issue, doesn't heat up as a plasma and just think, p0rn can be so much nicer in LCD...ok I just made that last thing up...but longer term, the picture in a plasma will fade...
the new plasmas have eliminated this problem. they have many tricks to do this. the average life of a plasma is over 60,000 hrs. that's a whole lot of tv watching. LCD also fades over time. The only technology that has the same picture quality from day1 to day5000 is DLP. Plasma is the better deal at the larger sizes 50+, LCDs rule the lower size sprectrum, though you can still find some good deals on the 42inch plasmas.
I saw a 42 in Samsung LCD or Plasma (couldn't see which, was just walking by) for 750 at walmart today...I really like Samsungs.
must have been an lcd. I don't think Samsung sells plasmas at walmart. their series 5 plasmas are usually at the bestbuys/circuit cities. Circuit City has some good deals. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/LCD-...69+90000610/link/ref/rpem/ccd/categorylist.do I find the 720p 50inch plasmas the best deals (Panasonic/Samsung) you get the larger size TVs and quality brands. you can get a 1080p 40inch tv, but it won't pop out as a 50inch plasma. As far as resolution, its hard to tell unless you sit really close to the tv. plus if you set the color/contrast correctly, it makes a world of difference.
While we were volunteering during the cleanup of Bridge City, one of my buddies picked up a 42" Samsung LCD TV from someone's trash pile. It worked like a charm.
Samsung LN52A650 is 1678 with FS (no tax) on amazon right now. But you can't do a search for it. This is the guy's directions on how to get it in your cart. Go to AUDIO/VIDEO click on flat panel 3rd one down is ln52a650 add to cart $1,678.00 Blammo!!!
Watch out on those things. Search an issue called "flicker". I assume they have eliminated that issue by now though. If you can look for the old 5084 model, better TV. Probably cheaper by now. If you can find it. Panny was mentioned. Those plasmas are nice. Can't go wrong with a Panny plasma. When considering LCD vs plasma. Just look at the pictures and figure it out yourself. The differences aren't anything to worry about at this point in the technology. The whole "well generally plasmas have deep blacks, glare, burn in, LCDs have bad viewing angles, use less power, etc.." are pretty much too ambiguous nowadays.
If on a budget and smaller screen, go for the LCD. If you can splurge a bit and room for a bigger screen, plasma.
