I'm in the market for some new speakers for my home stereo system. Want something good for a decent price, preferably with built-in stands. Any recs? Side note - I started a thread like this about a year and a half ago...somebody on the BBS posted a link to a website for a speaker company with tower speakers that looked pretty good. I bookmarked it but unfortunately I've changed computers since then. All help is appreciated. Thanks!
RMT, What are you looking for specifically? Are you looking for a new setup from scratch? Or are you looking for replacement speakers? If so, which set? Front or back? Also, what will you using to push these speakers? ie. what kind of receiver? If you have the space, and don't have anything now, look into floor speakers, they deliver good sound, depending on which kind you get. If you are looking for middle-of-the-road, consumer-class models that sound awesome but not too pricey, you should look into Klipsch. A decent pais would cost you about $800.
Replacement speakers, but over time I will be switching out all of my stereo gear. I want a set that will work with my average ONKYO receiver now, and something that will work with a higher-powered receiver in the future. My stereo gear is getting seriously outdated....the only thing I care to keep is the turntable. Need to get a new receiver & CD/DVD player.
I think you should check out the Klipsch Icon series. They are consumer-class, and can be powered with your receiver now, and still use more juice down the road to push.
I've read that some people think the Klipsch's are colored a little too much in the high end, but I just love the way they sound. I have out door speakers from them, reference speakers in my home theater, multimedia speakers for my PC and a twenty some odd year old set of Forte II's. I've done the whole bit where I go around town and listen to every speaker I can find, and I always come back to Klipsch (I did find some B&W's I fell in love with, but couldn't stomach the tariff).
