So I am trying to run Ubuntu from a disk and I am getting an error message and I cant seem to get any help from the Ubuntu boards. Maybe someone can help me out here?

So I boot from the cd rom...ubuntu menu loads...i choose to boot from disk. so the orange load bar is going back and forth for a few minutes, then i get this error message:
(a huge integer) buffer I/O error on device fd0 logical block 0

i'm not sure whats going on...i have read the forums...have tried adding floppy=off and acpi=off at the end of the boot line in the menu as some have told me to try. no luck

anyone know what to do? I am simply just trying to run ubuntu from the cd to just mess around with.

    Specs:
    vista 64bit
    4 GB ram
    320 GB HD
    intel E8400

edit: i did d-load the 64 bit version of ubuntu in case you might be wondering

Did you set up the required harddisk space for memory swap and linux? You have to partition your hard drive to create two new drives at least.

    things to try:

I might be a bad CD. You could try to burn it on a new CD.
Instead of Ubuntu, try and burn knoppix or Fedora to a CD and see if you get the same error.
Some linux distro's allow you to boot off of usb also.

    i hope this helps.

You might just try unplugging the floppy drive and getting around the problem all together. That, or just disable the floppy from the bios. good luck.

i have burned ubuntu onto two discs...the second time at a speed of 8x, maybe i should try 4x?

also...i d-loaded knoppix and i didnt get the same error...but it also didnt boot properly either

What program are you using to burn the CD's? I've had some problems with poweriso, clonecd,e tc and have had to switch to burrning the iso's using Nero. Pretty much Nero is the only program ive used that has successfully burned an image file every time.

Also, i would try to re download it from another mirror.

    Hope this helps.
