I wonder if this will make a dent in the polls. I also wonder if this thing is unleashed too early.

You certainly can't argue with what she said...

Obama's campaign has benefitted from bad news for America and has openly rooted for it. Without tough economic times, he's down 20+ in the polls...so it's not hard to see why they feel that way...

As far as the terrorist relationships, Obama has a deep relationship with Bill Ayers, a known terrorists. He also attended a church for 20 years where the pastor and the paritioners absolutely hated the white man and America. Literally hours after 9-11, they were dancing in the pews as their pastor called America a terrorist.

Those are simply the facts, folks...

LOL, how about someone married to a secessionist? So awesome.

This will be the true test of whether negative campaigning truly always works. These lame guilt-by-association attacks, from a ticket that is appearing ever-more-desperate, would be our best chance to see negative campaigning go a Pfailin.

Jorge, we are missing you in the Michigan thread.

Also, please, pretty please, promise us that the GOP has something better than these recycled 2nd-order association attacks. Please?

She really cashed in those VP debate tokens quickly. We'll see if her opinion is ridiculed for what it is or if she can still resonate with independents and undecideds.

Good point, the thought of Michelle Obama, who has had her entire life gifted to her by virtue of sympathetic handouts yet is still not proud of America, sleeping even one night in the White House is a bit too much to stomach...

Sarah Palin addressed the Alaskan Indepence Party who would like to withdraw from the United States with the following words, "Keep up the good work."

I want someone who sees America differently than she does.

So basically, what you're saying is that the party you support has been so incompetent that they can't beat an American-hating terrorist collaborator. That they are so inept that they've created a 28-point opposite swing in the way the polls should be. Awesome...

Bingo. Two problems with this strategy:

    1. Too much of America has now been introduced to Obama. He's now seen as the "safe" choice in the race because of McCain's instability these last few weeks and Palin's apparent incompetence. Painting Obama as dangerous won't work nearly as well now as it would months ago.

    2. No one is going to give any credence to Palin saying someone is unqualified, as she tried to do. It induces laughter at her. McCain could try it, but Palin can't really make that argument. People see her as someone they don't really know and feel is unqualified - who is she to judge someone they know better?

That said, I don't blame the McCain camp here. The nature of political campaigns is to go ugly when you're losing, and McCain clearly is. But I think his people underestimate how involved people are in this election - the slime crap is not nearly as effective when you have an engaged electorate. When 70 million people get a direction impression of the candidates from the debates, ads aren't nearly as impactful.

"The premise of any smear campaign rests on a central truth of politics: Most of us will vote for a candidate we like and respect, even if we don't agree with him on every issue. But if you can cripple a voter's basic trust in a candidate, you can probably turn his vote. The idea is to find some piece of personal information that is tawdry enough to raise doubts, repelling a candidate's natural supporters. [...]

It's not necessary, however, for a smear to be true to be effective. The most effective smears are based on a kernel of truth and applied in a way that exploits a candidate's political weakness."

That was McCain's campaign manager Rick Davis in 2000 after the smear campaign Bush ran in the South Carolina primary. Again, another example of how McCain isn't all that different from Bush. He also said:

"Rebutting tawdry attacks focuses public attention on them, and prevents the campaign from talking issues."

And as they've already told us, this elections isn't about issues.

The McCain campaign should advise Palin noit to talk for the next month if they have any desire to win this thing.

Obama lives in the same neighborhood as Ayers, and has met him a few times, that's it. He called Ayers', relationship with that organization "destestable."

Yes, Obama doesn't see America as Palin and all her blind pals do. Obama actually sees a rational view of our country. One that would not continue us on the nosedive straight into the ground that she inevitably would do.

    from the article--

Right along with McCAin, it's not surprising that Palin would outright lie about Obama.

    So desperate

It's funny when your last ditch effort resorts to contorting a snippet from an article in the NY Times into a smear tactic.

You know, this definitely influences me. I mean, of course as the President of the United States Mr. Obama would want our country to suffer. Of course, as President of the United States he would plan to sell secrets to terrorists. Of course, as President of the United States, he is going to make sure that white people's rights are all taken away. What I don't understand is how more Americans can't see that. How they can only see that Mr. Obama is a thoughtful, intelligent person who obviously loves America and wants America to reverse its currently negative perception around the world. Just don't get it.

What I don't understand is there’s not much time left in the campaign. Wouldn't McCain and Palin be better spent spending their time laying out their vision for America instead of attacking Obama? I mean she’s really new to the scene and I’m sure Americans would rather spend time learning what she stood for and what she envisions a McCain/Palin ticket will do for America.

    right?
