Iroc It, What I was getting at, is an eventual question about how you reconcile what scientists say about the age of the earth versus what the Bible or Christianity implies. I don't know why you are being so obtuse about this, I really was just curious. Scientists don't know everything.....I concede that..... As for me, I believe that the earth is around 4.6 billion years old, based upon scientific discovery and aging of rocks etc. It could be older, but I don't know how it could be younger.....maybe the Rocks were floating in space for a long time and God put them together to make the earth.......God can do anything....I believe. So, how old do you think it is? And why? And more importantly if you think it is younger than what Scientists say ( and I concede before that it could be ), then how do you reconcile what scientists say about the age of the earth with your faith? I am seriously curious.... Thanks, DD
I shouldn't be bashing the movie anyways I haven't seen it. But I lean to the examples of Noah entering the ark, Lot leaving Sodom, for timing- the righteous are spared and then there is judgment... so that may fit a post-trib scenario I believe in a literal heaven, especially as given as the new heaven and new earth of Revelations... I just don't know how to define it scripturally except to say that Jesus will be there and the only other thing I could do is post a lot of verses. I couldn't agree more, if you love Him you will keep His commands, what can a branch do without the vine- nothing I hear your heart for people, that is God's love I am pretty literal about scripture, and I believe a child can understand it, so when Jesus said our father which art in heaven... he was talking about another place/ location. It is imminent, not that we know how soon, the emphasis is on preparation. Like a bride looking forward to the wedding day. Look at it this way, if you knew a thief was coming to your house you would prepare yourself, you wouldn't know exactly when because the thief is not going to call you when he drives up, but you will be ready when it happens. If you are not prepared, then you get robbed like any other person... the thief in the night surprises you. Good stuff IROC it. EDIT- I apologize for preaching to the choir
See... here is my issue... If you think I'm avoiding it based on Biblical statements, that's where I cannot stress more than ever... no one knows. The discussion among even Bible Scholars is not rigidly defined... How much time (in modern calendar terms) is a "creation day?" No one knows. How was the information of the Creation "week" related to early man? In terms he might grasp... I'm glad that you conceded that science does not know all... I will also concede that religion does not know all... We agree then, by applied logic, that no man knows the exact age of the earth. I guess my point is... why do we need an exact estimation, or why should we claim to establish one, even for the sake of science, when there is plenty to observe in say the last 200-500 years? Whether the "big bang" theory is fact, or the exact Creation narrative is literal in modern terms (meaning I see it as literally God's Word, but often man's interpretations are found to be far off)... Neither school is 100% proven as the only possibility. I thank you for your openness in this discussion. And I still won't even venture a guesstimate on the answer of how old the Earth is. Even if, as you surmise, I were to use the Bible as my measuring stick, there is no evidence that solidifies that Biblical measurements of time span as recorded in Genesis are meant to be equated to modern calculations. I respectfully submit the "my ways are not your ways" clause. I would love to answer you. But in my humble opinion, I have no clue in this matter, nor should I claim to have one.
God can do or make anything. So why should it be such a big deal that he sacrificed his only begotten son, when he could make as many sons as he wanted if he would just get off his celestial ass and do it....
I see you edited, but I missed being able to quote the entire statement. Anyways - I understand your points, and honestly haven't studied it enough to form a strong opinion on the matter. What I can say is this...I believe it more plausible for God to have created an aged Earth than many of the theories out there. But again, I haven't studied this thoroughly and don't intend on ever doing so... The one thing that has always stumped me is - where did God come from? Even if you didn't believe in God...where did space come from? The fact is...we'll never be able to understand all the details.
So what. It's still not a big deal. Also, Jesus allegedly knew that by sacrificing his life that he was giving eternal life to all of humanity. I would do that to if that were the case, no big whoop. Not that great, this Jesus character....
Related question: why did God give us the ability to think rationally if she expected us to believe something that contradicts all observable evidence?
Yeah, whatever, my point is that he was not all that great... You can nitpick all you want telling me about stuff that you read in some book at some point in time....
Cockroaches. They have survived millions of years. Pollution, Global warming, war, fires, hurricanes, ice age. There are always cockroaches, no matter how many disasters.
I see your point. For me He is everything, for you not worth considering. I tell you that not from reading but from experience.
Just extremely diheartened by the bailout. I feel it goes against everything that I've been taught all these years.
