I know there is a lot to get excited about for this up coming season. The deals and signings. But one of the things I am looking forward to is the progress of Carl Landry. That is if his knee is 100% like he says. He did spectacular things considering his 2nd round drafting (for a rookie). He needs to work on some defense but I don't see any reason he should not be competing for starter above Scola. That might be pushing a little bit this season but he I expect a lot of Carl in the future. He being so light on his feet is what sets him apart. He is a steal and baring injury and RA playing Artest significant minutes at the 4 I am very much looking forward to his progress 2nd to Artests play.
I just hope his knee really is ok. I'll get excited when he starts doing those super quick jumps for boards and dunks again like he did before the knee issue.
The power forward is Scolandry. they are one person. .. At this point Scola is the better player, and also he has better lets say "infectious passion".. the way Scola plays, it just spreads a possitive energy that, Landry doesnt really have at this point. thats my opinion.
I'm opposite. I am hoping Dorsey can prove to be just as good or better then Carl was last year regardless of knee injuries. Reason being so is complete business though. If he can prove to be better or just as good it puts trade value into Landry.
Landry plays with a helluva lot of passion too, dont discount him. When he blocked Deron's shot and Rafer tried to kiss him he was like ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH I AM MANDRY
Contrary to popular belief, Chucky Hayes isn't exactly chopped liver either. I love our three headed monster at PF.
I think it's safe to say that the Rockets are pretty set at the power forward position for the next 2 or 3 years minimum. But yeah, I am definitely hoping Carl Landry is going to improve this season. I have a carl landry shirt, I support him at least once a week.
A Landry shirt?? Awesome. Do you mean a jersey though - or a T-shirt? If its an actual shirt I want to see it.
I would agree with you, but Dorsey remains severely limited by his offense. He can be just as effective on the inside, but Landry was a not too shabby 18 for 37 from inside the 3 point circle but decent way out of the key. check his - http://www.nba.com/hotspots/ 48.6% from that area is fairly impressive. If he worked on that part of his game this summer - and in an effort to not re-injure his knee in a contract offseason, he should have, he can become a very effective PF. All the somewhat undersized PF's have that mid-range game. Boozer, Brand, etc. Without it, Carl is just another Stromile Swift, but with more passion. Dorsey has to work really really really really hard to get that outside shot working, it would seem.
^^ Agreed. Joey is not going to have the scoring impact that Landry has. What would be nice is Landry's offensive game packaged with Dorsey's D. That would equal MONSTER.
LMAO But that block even got me pumped i jumped out my seat screamin n yellin It felt like i was there
I think at best Landry develops into a solid starter if he can develop some kind of 1 on 1 game. But I think what some people really underrate his ability to come in and just bring the confidence level of the team up with his game around the baseline or on the pick and roll, usually ending in some incredible dunk. In a close game, when Landry dunks on someone like that that can get the rest of the team pumped up. Not to mention offensive rebounds he provides obviously. Yea, I'm pumped up about Landry too.
Hell, let's go small ball with Landry, Dorsey, Scola on the floor... add TMac and either Brent, Artest or Battier... they're all around the same height lol... Come to think of it, there's so much potential diversity on this team with everyone able to play multiple positions... it's very exciting... the coaching staff will have a job of figuring out the right permutation for each situation of every game... if anyone can work out the right formula, Adelman can...
Yeah having similar sized athletic players on the same floor like Scola Landry TMac and Dorsey makes our switching D smoother and even tougher to score on. I still don't expect Dorsey to be part of the rotation but will be plugged in every now and then if the matchups call for it. It's Chuck Hayes who needs to be worried about Dorsey's progress.
True. At best, Dorsey's gonna be a brawnier Chuck Hayes who can hopefully hit those layups. Landry upside is WAY higher than Dorsey's.
