There are a lot of music people on here and I'm just wondering how most of you actually get your music. Some people prefer to have the actual CD in hand while others prefer the, generally, cheaper prices of online distribution.

Personally, I don't really have a preference but if the price difference is not more than a dollar or two I'll buy the CD.

I choose this, and it's REALLY cheap.

    It's free.

Artists that I really like, I'll buy the actual CD. For the most part, I've moved to just buying individual songs off of iTunes.

My big thing back in the day was the shameless way studios moved to releasing a one-hit wonder as album only (no single in stores) and expecting us to pay $15 for a song along with a steaming pile of filler. I've got no problem paying fair price for the songs I want. I also don't want to rob the actual artists of due royalties, especially when they only get pennies on the dollar as it is.

I'd rather just have the files. It's very rare that I listen to an actual album all the way through anymore, so the hard copies tend to just sit around and take up space.

Legit services have superior quality, but sometimes you have to really search the "other" avenues for particular songs.

I try before I buy. When I buy, I buy CDs, but not from major labels, where I kinda get stuck in the trying phase ;)

Usenet is great for sampling bands you have never heard of.

My preference is to buy CD's...I guess I'm old school, but I prefer to have something tangible, to remind me of what I bought...that and I can always burn it over and over again...

i buy the actual CD. i can rip it in any format and any quality as i want. and with BMG and such, average CD comes out to be $6 per CD after tax and shipping. that's about 50 cents per song. and if i get sick of it, I can sell it to local store or on the bay and get some money back. digital copies are too expensive and you can't sell it later.

i try before i buy. I'm actually kind of picky about what music i buy so it helps to be able to hear other songs from a person. I'd say unless i'm listening to something i've bought only about 5-10% of what i hear, i like.

Sometimes I download the songs, then I bought the album, If I really like the artist, but if I only like one or two songs I download them, but I dont use iTunes.

I buy from iTunes 95% of the time now. It's convenient and I like being able to just buy songs instead of albums.

    I buy the actual CD/vinyl.

I don't know, something about actually owning the piece of music seems more appealing than an mp3 file or whatever.
