Not what you are thinking. I think the pick was brilliant and she delivered in her RNC speech but... 1.Hiding her from the media was super dumb. Playing hard to get only works for so long. Possibly a week or so. After that she should have been on every show she had time for. During this time do a fake interview per day asking 50 or so possible questions and grade her answers. 2. Changing the debate format. She can debate she has done very well in them before and taking away the confrontation gets Biden off the hook. Now he can be as rude as he wants and recieve no politcal backlash. His campaign flashed brilliance with the congrats to Obama on MLK during DNC but serious mistakes since then turned the media against Palin for good reason.
Well Bush is a functioning moron and he did OK in debates. Anyone can cram for an exam when the people grading it are the media who know even less.
meh, she only got 25 minutes of coverage on "The Daily Show" after a historic vote in the House almost a MONTH after she was picked. I thought she needed some more coverage.
I think, at the very least, hiding her "chummed the waters" for the media. The McCain campaign virtually shut itself off from the media after the RNC for a while, McCain certainly stopped having his weekly open mics on the straight talk express. Would Palin have done any better? Probably not, she actually would have probably done much worse initially. However, there wouldn't have been the "McCain is hiding Palin" story to build up curiosity/expectations for the Gibson/Couric interviews and magnify all of her gaffs. You can't get around the fact that the Governor is dumb. She had several weeks to prepare and couldn't answer questions you KNOW she was briefed on (HOW could they not have given her a coherent set of talking points on the bailout?). She would have wound up being an ultimate minus to the campaign either way, the meteoric 'Palin Bump' was a bubble created by the McCain camps secrecy and so it made her fall in public opinion polls all the more dramatic. Maybe showing her early would have minimized the joke she's become, but it's hard to imagine her being a plus for the campaign either way...
I don;t think she is dumb. I just think the repubs suck and could not prepare her. She cannot be dumber than Bush.
its the economy stupid if it weren't for this meltdown, people as usual wouldn't care about the ability of the candidate. george bush came through at an optimal time, palin has not
I agree economy is bad for the current party guy but its not like Obama really ran on an Economic ticket. He really made his mark on Iraq like McCain.
I don't think she is dumb. Sh is just amazingly uniformed, which is very dangerous for the presidency.
I'm asking this, not to be contrarian, snarky, etc. How do you explain her answer to Couric on the bailout then? Do you believe she wasn't prepared by staff for that question? Or do you believe her inability to put together a coherent though was for some other reason? Her verbatim answer was used in an SNL sketch. I'm not sure whether she's smarter than Bush, I know that the ability to handle a press conference and functional intelligence are two different things. But how much can you really blame her handlers for her not being able to answer questions she knew was coming? Also, if anyone's interested, Slate has a hilarious article diagramming the grammar of Palin's answers: http://www.slate.com/id/2201158/
Yeah I blame her handlers. It takes a robot to give an answer that was practiced. They obviously did not do this, or do it enough. Also how do they not tell her what is the Bush doctrine. Something happened behind the scenes, either she refused help and said she could do it, or the people totally failed to do their jobs. I know it seems obvious that anyone could do better than that, but when you are under bright lights and on the camera if you don;t know the material cold you look like a tard. I was interviewed once about a hobby I was into on camera and we had to do like 4 takes. I literally could not remember basic terminology I used everyday.
No one is asking you to be leader of the free world either..or a heartbeat away. I don't mean that as an insult, I just have higher expectations for people who: a. should be used to media presence by now; b. will be surrounded by media for the next 4 years if elected.
I hate the defense of "it's hard to do this on camera" and stuff like that. When did America stop wanting their leaders to be better than the common person in things like leadership, speaking ability, intelligence, morality, composure, discretion, etc.
