If so, how did it go? Who are you insured with? Was it easy or a pain in the ass? Let's hear the horror stories.

A lady my wife works with was not aware of her policy or her deductible. She called to have an adjuster come out just like the radio told her to do. The adjuster came out and estimated about $4,000 in damage, but her deductible was about $8,000, so the claim nets her $0.

She just got a letter saying she was dropped from her insurance because this was her third "claim" despite not getting a dime.

It went pretty quickly...we had called the Farmers Tuesday after the hurricane and the adjuster came on that Friday. He estimated the damages totaled to 7k but it had 2k something for deprecation and our deductible was 3k something so we were left with a 1kish check that day.

We haven't deposited it yet to make sure we caught everything that wasn't damaged.

I have Farmers Insurance. I called on Monday after the storm hit and was able to get an appointment only until Wednesday (I kept getting a voice mail from my adjuster) who set up one for last Friday September 26th.

I got a check for food and another for house repair expenses.
Roof damage, attic puddle, wall damage, ceiling on bathroom damage, fence damage, etc. It was about 8k and that was AFTER he took out the deductible.

SuperMac34, those are stories from people who don't want to pay much for Insurance monthly, and have a very HIGH deductible. I laugh at those people... :D

Swoly/Lady-Di, did you make your claim as part of homeowners or hurricane insurance?

we were debating whether to file a claim under each, as we have some plumbing issues we might as well work out (as part of HO's) if we are gonna hire a guy to do the sheet rock for our cielings...but I was under the impression I would have to meet a separate deductible for HO'swhich wouldn't make it worth the cost...

No, she just has a very expensive house, so her deductible is likewise very expensive.

I'm not sure how your insurance works but I guess it's just a general claim on our homeowners' insurance which covers hurricane damage.

I disagree, higher deductible insurance is a smart way to save money if you can afford not filing claims for small issues.. I'm sure your agent would disagree though.. The people I laugh at are the ones that estimate what their house is worth and don't subtract the value of their land and pay a higher homeowner premiums on something that will never be damaged..

My insurance company is The Republic Group. They have been hell to deal with so far, but my deductible is only $600 so I should get a decent check for the damage I sustained. I really don't know if my premium is that much higher than most people. I at least was smart enough to not insure the land value, as Davidoff mentioned.

I didn't have a separate claim. It was all part of homeowners' insurance. If you have roof damage and ceiling damage, more than likely it will go over your deductible, because your walls might need work you can't see without an adjuster.
