***NSFW*** Spoiler Is using their work against their will illegal? I'm wondering if profit comes into it, etc. Either way, Heart's music sucks and always will, but that letter burns burns burns burns burns to the wiiiiick.
I think the issue really is out of Heart's hands now and that the McCain campaign is legally licensing the music. Of course, Heart is free to use the licensing fees any way they wish. So it's kind of funny that by using "Barracuda", the McCain campaign is actually contributing financially to Obama's campaign.
"Crazy on You" had one of the best acoustic intros ever... apart from being a good song itself. They were good. But back on topic...that's hilarious. Even your intro songs are turning on you John.
i like heart. well except maybe there name. and i have good taste in music. i dont blame them for being angry if they didnt want mccain to use there music. but i truly feel sorry for politics in this country. how would mccain's wife feel after reading that? probably pretty embarrased. comes with the game but its pretty sick.
Heart is a great group. But if they wrote that, it's completely uncalled for. It's utterly tasteless and downright offensive. Stuff like that would make me more sympathetic to McCain, because no one deserves to be denigrated like that, regardless of one's political leanings.
PLEASE people... http://www.snopes.com/politics/mccain/barracuda.asp False. My goodness. Look things up, will ya?
Ummm, recheck that notion... most of these rumors are based on the spoof and hearsay. The campaign, as with any, obtained the necessary licenses. They pay royalties to Heart through ASCAP. Any campaign just pays the royalties. The only "true" statements made about this by anyone with the band, or the song, were these: So, whatever. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hpkitLUbeEg&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hpkitLUbeEg&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Sue youtube then...
From the horses mouth: Thursday afternoon, Heart e-mailed out a statement regarding vice-presidential candidate Sarah "Barracuda" Palin's use of their similarly monikered song at the Republican National Convention: "The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission," it read. "We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored." But after McCain finished his speech accepting the GOP's presidential nomination tonight, Palin joined him on stage, and the song was used again: Heart's "Barracuda" played as balloons fell. With that elephant in the room, Heart's Nancy Wilson felt compelled to personally respond. "I think it's completely unfair to be so misrepresented," she said in a phone call to EW.com after the speech. "I feel completely f---ed over." She and sister Ann Wilson then e-mailed the following exclusive statement: "Sarah Palin's views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song 'Barracuda' no longer be used to promote her image. The song 'Barracuda' was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The 'barracuda' represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there's irony in Republican strategists' choice to make use of it there." So, McCain payed the ASCAP fee, and Heart asked them not to use the song Whatever yourself.
LOL, I guess we all have our price. I think they should donate equally to both campaigns. That would really... ....wait for it...... even it up, even it up, even it up....
If they did write that then that ish is absolute Ether! Hilarious stuff. Them Heart ladiez is some craaazy b*tches.
So conservatives only like celebrities when a) they're Chuck Norris, b) Ahnold, c) Reagan, or d) want to use their songs without even a hint of irony. Cool.
Nobody even said they like Heart, just the song. Are you saying that people should only listen to music made by people who agree with their political views?
