    Liberalism

Political liberalism is the belief that individuals are the basis of law and society, and that society and its institutions exist to further the ends of individuals, without showing favor to those of higher social rank.

Cultural liberalism focuses on the rights of individuals pertaining to conscience and lifestyle, including such issues as sexual freedom, religious freedom, cognitive freedom, and protection from government intrusion into private life.

Economic liberalism, also called classical liberalism or Manchester liberalism, is an ideology which supports the individual rights of property and freedom of contract, without which, it argues, the exercise of other liberties is impossible. It advocates laissez-faire capitalism, meaning the removal of legal barriers to trade and cessation of government-bestowed privilege such as subsidy and monopoly.

Conservatism is a term used to describe political philosophies that favour tradition, where tradition refers to various religious, cultural, or nationally defined beliefs and customs. Some conservatives seek to preserve the status quo or to reform society slowly, while others seek to return to the values of an earlier time, the status quo ante

Cultural conservatism is a philosophy that supports preservation of the heritage of a nation or culture.
In the subset social conservatism, the norms may also be what is viewed as a question of morality. Cultural conservatives often argue that old institutions have adapted to a particular place or culture and therefore ought to be preserved. Others argue that a people have a right to their cultural norms, their own language and traditions.

Fiscal conservatism is the economic philosophy of prudence in government spending and debt. In other words, a government does not have the right to run up large debts and then throw the burden on the taxpayer; the taxpayers' right not to be taxed oppressively takes precedence even over paying back debts a government may have imprudently undertaken.

The phrases "economic liberal" and "economic conservative" seem to be antonyms, diverging from modern neoliberalism, and classical liberalism in the tradition of Adam Smith.[18] Some conservatives look to a modified free market order, such as the American System, ordoliberalism, or Friedrich List's National System. The latter view differs from strict laissez-faire in that the state's role is to promote competition while maintaining the national interest, community and identity.

Conservatism in the United States comprises a constellation of political ideologies including fiscal conservatism, free market or economic liberalism, social conservatism, and religious conservatism, as well as support for a strong military,[22] [23] small government, and states' rights.

Conservatism promotes individual liberty as the basis of freedom. Liberalism promotes social justice as the basis of equality.

Liberal Democrat: sees only the trees
Conservative Democrat: sees the trees first, then the forest
Liberal Republican: sees the forest first, then the trees
Conservative Republican: sees only the forest

These Labels seem to e more about demonizing
squaring off as THEM and US
without any real meaning of what they mean
If I'm liberal . .and you disagree with me . . .u automatically conservative
    and vice versa
without any real care for what it means to be liberal or conservative
I have my label .. that I like. . and if you don't like me. .you THE OTHER

That seems the way of the world now

Democrats and Republicans are partisans. They have no real ideology except that whatever their party does is right.

Liberals and conservatives are ideologues. They have a specific set of principles and follow those principles regardless of who espouses them.

I think, sadly for liberals and conservatives, that the extreme wings of both ideologies have co-opted the labels for themselves which has somewhat blurred the line between the ideologues and the partisans.

This is why I've been becoming more and more discouraged with politics recently. It seems like the principles that the parties used to stand for have been thrown out the window in an effort to win at all costs via an us vs. them mentality. At times it seems like Democrats and Republicans don't stand for anything except standing against each other.
