My flight leaves at 7:07 tonight and I will be in LA at 11:30 your time! So, What's the weather like right now? Will I be comfy in jeans and tees or do I need to bring shorts? Is it worth going to see what Rodeo drive is like on a Sunday? Keep in mind I love architecture and design (and I want to see Gene Kelly's former house It looks so very homey.) I am staying near Universal Studios... are there any good sports bars I can go to near there on Saturday afternoon to watch college football? ie UK vs Alabama. Okay that's all I can think of... if you have suggestions for me please let me know. I have the basics, car, hotel etc, but other advice always welcome.
Well, I lived there for 12 years, but moved out 10 years ago...let me jog my memory.... Rodeo Drive is cool. At the very least walk a few blocks and do some window shopping. Here are a few bar/restaurant recs for you....in no particular order. --The Rainbow (Sunset Strip)...where the big haired rockers and rocker wanna-be's hangout. The people watching there is incredible. --House of Blues (Sunset Strip)...one of the nicer HOBs...see who is playing and go if it is an act you like --Barney's Beanery (West Hollywood)...where Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin used to hang out...cool bar with food --Kings Head Pub (Santa Monica) - best British pub in LA...great fish & chips --Nate & Al's (Beverly Hills)...best deli in LA --Tito's Tacos (West LA)...greasiest funkiest taco joint you will ever eat at Enjoy!
go have lunch with fellow clutchfan YoYo at the Farmer's Market on Fairfax Oh have dinner at Mario Batalli's pizzeria, Mozza.. call ahead see some tv shows, they are free
it is unusually warm this time of year. you should have planned shorts anyway. all i know about the area you are staying in is a jazz club called "The Baked Potato" they serve baked potatoes.
If you like architecture I suggest checking out the Disney Concert Hall and if you have the time the Getty Museum.
^ ^don't be surprised if you don't think much of it the first time you have it...then have an unexplainable craving for it some time during your trip...their secret ingredient is heroin also...you have to hit up Roscoe's Chicken n Waffle late night...
the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills is another hiddem gem. The Big Lebowski and There Will Be Blood were filmed there... you should drive up the PCH, starting at Santa Monica Pier and go until you hit Malibu. it will be 30 or 45 minutes with traffic. you can watch the sunset at Zume Beach, or head to Duke's for a cocktail... besides the Getty Museum, there's also the Getty Villa (off the PCH near Pacific Palisades) La Brea Tar Pits? LACMA. Museum of Natural History. Visit the Coliseum/USC. Westwood/UCLA is a much prettier part of town though.
I have been to California once. The ex and I rented a car and drove down to Monterey Bay and took hwy 1 all the way back up to SF. Perfect time of the year to do it with the top down. Sure, you could take your top off, if you don't have a convertible. Have fun.
Walk Sepulveda Blvd in San Fernando Valley Inglewood Area South Central Compton Central City East Downtown I keed Try Fatburgers also Be prepared to be stuck in traffic, even in the middle of the day, and I'm not kidding
DEFINITELY do the Getty Museum, and I'm not saying that just because I worked there for 7 years. It's a must-see if you like art, and the views are spectacular.
