Should the Rockets look at some of the FA's available and take a SF in the draft? I really don't like the idea of Borchardt as our top 10 pick, unless we get Toronto's pick and can look at Yarbrough, Prince, Buttler etc.. Loren Woods, Mikki Moore, and Daniel Santiago are probably quite available. Keon Clark is also a restricted FA but is surely worth a phone call on draft day... If Houston got the top 5 pick, I'm sure Dunleavy would come out, b/c the Rockets would take him there. He's Rudy's prototype 3, only smarter.. Has anyone seen Jefferies play much? What skills does he bring? I know ppl bash me for Prince, but as far as i can tell, he can bring it
Dunleavy isn't coming out this year. I do like what Prince can bring but I dout the Raptor's will let Clark get away.
1st of all...Mike Dunleavy has announced that he is staying in school. Regardless, the last thing we need is another tweener. Mikki Moore and Daniel Santiago? Moore is a poor man's Camby at best and Santaigo was "code redded" in Guantanamo Bay. I know Ian Eagle (broadcaster for the Nets) personally and recently asked him what the deal was with him. He said that some NBA teams give an exam that focuses on the mental aspect of a player rather than the physical aspect. He said that on the Knicks exam, Loren Woods had the lowest score EVER registered in their 10 plus years of giving it.
http://www.nbadraft.net/ check the latest mock draft out....although I dont think Wilcox is a shoe-in to come out
Draftnet is always out of date. They have good material on college players, but that is about it. As far as draft position, as of 9 a.m. March 20 it looks like this: 1) Bulls 17 – 51 2) Grizzlies (Det) 17 – 50 3) Warriors 17 – 49 4) Nuggets 19 – 45 5) Cavs (or 6) 25 – 42 6) Rockets (or 5) 25 – 42 7) Hawks (Clips) 26 – 40 8) Knicks 26 – 40 9) Suns 30 – 37 10) Raptors 30 – 38 11) Wizards 31 – 36 12) Heat 30 – 35 13) Hornets 33 - 33 14) Clippers 35 – 33
enbehay: Do you have any idea if we would win a tiebreaker for higher draft position w/ Cleveland since they swept us in the season series?? NJRocket: You know anything about this Marcus Haislip at Tennessee - you think he might be a Keon Clark type who would fit our squad??
Gimp...Haislip to me is somewhere in between Camby and Keon Clark...the guy, from what I have seen, can jump out of the building and can block shots. Supposedly he is a gym rat. In my opinion, he could use another year in school.
The Toronto pick is fading fast - 4 games out with 14 to play. Gauging from last night's loss to Minnesota, Toronto must have quit.
Oh, I forgot the real gist of the thread. There are no unrestricted FA centers of value. Heck, Collier is better than any of the restricted FAs, except Olawakandi -- and, IMO, he's still a project. The Bulls, Grizzlies, Warriors and Nuggets are solid locks for the worst record. Not even a tanking Rockets team could catch them. So, all we can hope for is #5 and a really, really great draw! If Williams, Ming, Woods and Gooden are gone, I'd be really happy drafting Wagner and trading the little dribbler (assuming Steve's migraines are cured). Talk about shooters on the floor -- consider Steve, Cat and the Juan and only. Woof!
The more I think about it, there must be something like a coin toss in situations where lottery teams end up with the same record (possible Hou Cle scenario). I can't see the league penalizing a team for winning a season series with an automatic lower draft seed.
Drawing from memory here, but I believe that, for lotto teams, they add the number of balls together for tied teams and divide them equally. So, if we tied with Cleveland, the two teams would have the exact same chance of getting a top-3 slot. Then, if neither do, I think a coin toss decides who goes first.
How big is Caron Butler? Is he an NBA-size forward? 3 or 4? I haven't seen him play all that much in the tourney, but I know he's a great scorer and a great player. Aww man. Imagine during a playoff game, we all hear those beautiful words, "Annnnd the first pick of the NBA draft will go tooo...(opens envelope)...The Houston Rockets!" (CD jumps up and does the Moochie Norris Striptease Act. Ah, the possibilities.
The more I see of Jerome James (Seattle) the more I like the idea of using some portion of our MCE to acquire him. At 7'1", 270, he is as big a Marcus, but he appears to be more mobile and he actually has a vertical. Given that Seattle signed Calvin Booth last summer, have Vin Baker and Drobnjak under contract, and they have to re-sign Lewis this summer, James may be a luxury they can't afford. However, all teams have an MCE so the competition may be tough to acquire him.
