OOOO! I hit a hot streak... On the 15/16th tries, I got the 2nd pick.. and on the 18th/20th tries, I got the 3rd pick again. 2nd on the 24th. 3rd on the 34th. FINALLY!!! Got the 1st pick on the 37th try.
More good news came for the Rockets as the Hawks inadvertently overshot the cack-o-matic Bulls while the newbie Knicks pulled a headscratcher in beating the Grizzlies 101-92. The Grizz are now just percentage points away from taking the lead in 'Title Tank'. "We have dug ourselves a deep hole," added Memphis rookie Pau Gasole. "But we're confident we can dig deeper." My 1st 10 times the Rockets have gotten #5 or #6. crap The Knicks and Cavs both won the lottery Heat got up the #2. Rockets 3rd pick on my 13th try. Finally, Rockets #1 pick on try #18.
Given the way the Rocket's season has gone, I'd not be surprised at all to see them end up with the 5th pick on the very last day only to have one of the 6-8 teams to win the lotto.
Golden State and Denver did well when I did it. We landed at #3 on my 4th try. I also got us at #2 after the 9th and 1th try.
I've been reading for a while, but I figured I had to register and post. After searching for the lotto ball page...finally got to it, clicked on it...1st try (I'll probably never repeat it now that this happened), Rockets #1! Everything else was in order except the Grizz and the Bulls flip-flopped (Grizz were 2, Bulls were 3).
Clutch, are the percentage chances of winning each of the top-3 picks inter-dependent? That is, does the chance of winning the #2 pick take into account what has already happened with the #1? Anyone who's better at math than I am: From the #5 slot, what is the chance we get a top-3 pick? What is the chance we get a #6-8 pick? Should we be bracing ourselves to lose a couple places?
2nd pick on 1st try baby! 1st pick on the 4th try! WHOOOOOOOO! I'm starting to like this tanking stuff.
I had the same idea as rimrocker. I also did twenty: 1 0 2 2 3 2 5 4 6 10 7 2 8 0 Adding our attempts: 1 0 2 5 3 2 5 10 6 17 7 6 8 0 Lotto winner = 17.5% #5 = 25% #6 = 42.5% #7 = 15% #8 = 0% Given these terribly unscientific results, brace yourselves for a #6, despite tanking.

25 attempts we got the following: 1st one time 2nd three times 3rd three times Thats seven top three picks out of 25 attempts. Other notables: Atl with only 36 balls managed to get the 1st pick 5 times and the 2nd pick once during the same 25 attempts. Cle managed 1st twice, 2nd once and 3rd three times. Out of the 25 times the 1st pick was won by the 5 seed or lower ten times.
You are talking about the CC.net Lotto Race 2002, right? I tried, and got the second pick on only my second attempt! Woohoo! Ehhehe...ehe.....e.....uh.....
In a perfect world, the Rockets would get the #1 overall pick, followed by the Clippers, Chicago, & Memphis in that order. If we assume that the Clippers would love to have Jason Williams, then we bluff them into trading us Odom for Cato & swapping picks, or we'll trade the #1 overall pick to Chicago. That would drop us down to #2. We then trade down to #4, in exchange for Memphis relieving us of our obligation for next year. They could then take Yao Ming. At the #4 pick, we choose whatever center the Rockets have their eye on, or trade down even further, if we think that our center of choice will drop further. Ahhhhh, if only it were a perfect world.
Following the lead previously established. The results of my 20: #1 - 0 times #2 - 3 times #3 - 1 time #5 - 8 times #6 - 6 times #7 - 2 times #8 - 0 times Adding my attempts to the previous 40: #1 - 0 times #2 - 8 times #3 - 3 times #5 - 18 times #6 - 23 times #7 - 8 times #8 - 0 times Results: Lotto winner = 18.3% #5 = 30% #6 = 38.3% #7 = 13.3% #8 = 0% This is assuming of course we take the 5th slot.
