I had a final in a strategy class in B-school that was about the technology used in the Kindle. So, I have warm fuzzies toward them for that. Otherwise, I wouldn't have noticed. I don't think I have a use for it.
i'd rather have the real book or an audiobook on an mp3 player, to be honest. That thing is kinda pricey, too. What percentage of the books you'd want are in Kindle format? I'm with JV, I really have no use for it in its current form and price.
I have one and absolutely love it. If you have any specific questions let me know and I'll answer as best I can.
i want it bad, the hardware anyway. what gives me pause is the limitations of what's available. more than for books, i want it to replace my obsession for periodicals. it seems like if i get the kindle it would be analogous to being stuck only with iTunes to get and play your music. that would suck, i hate proprietary bull****. i'm an open source kinda soul...
So is there any word on when a new version comes out? I know 2.0 came out last year. I'd hate to drop $350 and have a great new version come out a month later.
Can it load all existing document formats, such as pdf, doc, txt, etc...? Let's say I have a bunch of documents that I have collected over the years.
I think that there is support for some file formats but I'm not exactly sure which ones. I do know that they have to be converted in some way to be read via the Kindle. I've never tried it so I'm not a lot of help.
http://live.gizmodo.com/ Kindle II announced, live blog in above link, looks promising, also can be used as an audio book, sorta hefty price tag though, though i'm sure all kindle faithfuls will queue this into their shopping carts as soon as amazon makes it available
I would be interested in getting one, but the price of the books seems pretty ridiculous when you're not actually getting a hard copy.
