At this point, I think it's dead, but after the market drops in the morning, Paulson will run to Congress again with the same plan. So we've heard a lot about what will happen if the bailout doesn't pass. Here's the question: If it does pass, what will happen?

I'll be honest: I have no freaking clue. I've heard people on both sides argue their point and I'm more confused now than ever.

Honestly, I don't know, but doing nothing provides me with little comfort.

I don't see how anyone can answer anything other than "I don't know." Maybe even having no bailout is the right choice. Maybe we're screwed no matter what we do.

I am not as sure with the watered down version that went for a vote today. I think the original version had a much better chance of making an impact.

The newer version seemed to have so many issues that I am not sure any bank would actually participate until it was on the verge of failing. While it would be nice to minimize bank failures, which I think that bill would do, I think the important issue right now is to open the credit markets.

Nobody knows for sure whether the bailout will work.

But doing nothing is certainly not helping.

Yes it will. It's the difference between a hard landing and a real hard landing.

No. Because it's passed the point of no returns. ;)

Now, if they make it smaller, with less pork and politico... it might. But it will still be a long road back out of this.

Let me clarify, I meant the bailout will work to lessen the impact, but it will not avert a recession.

And if passed, it might do more harm than good.

Why commit so much money to an undertaking filled with such uncertainty?

Everybody should take a deep breath, scratch the Paulie Plan for good and start over with something that makes sense and protects taxpayers... and do it in an open fashion.

I don't know for sure what will happen but I do know that this line of thinking always gets you into trouble.

Quick! Let's do something (even if it's a bad idea) because it'll make us feel better!

I'm not saying we should rush into anything, but not doing anything can be equally catastrophic.

The great depression was caused by doing nothing. I don't know what needs to be done, but something needs to be done.

less "pork"? WTF are you even talking about.

    Have you read the bill?

Here is the full draft - please tell me where the "pork" provisions are.

Shut up and stop embarrassing yourself. You shouldn't talk about things you don't understand because you end up looking like a complete dumbass.

Yes it will. This is my last post about the bailout. I'm tired of saying the same crap over and over to the nonbelievers. They just do not get it and it seems like they never will. I don't need to waste my time and energy on proving them wrong when they have no say whether it goes through or not.

Recession is one thing, depression is a totally different matter.
