Exactly like the Johnny McSame team. All talk, no substance. "We're leading because... we SAY we're leading."

Meanwhile the rest of Congress and the country are moving past OLD Johnny and his pretty new pet. The rescue meeting today was really a rescue plan for John McCain's presidential campaign. The only bailout he is concerned with are due to the gaping holes in the bow caused by Palin slipping and hitting her head repeatedly on the deck of the SS Same Talk Express. McCain should get his new little nurse maid to grab him a fresh pillow and go take another nap.

McCain didn't suddenly drop everything so he could go to Washington and "lend a hand". He was gonna have his head handed to him in the debate, in part because he knows nothing about the economy, and needs to pretend he's an active part of solving this mess. Granted, it doesn't hurt both candidates to be privy to the discussions about the problem. Maybe McCain can actually walk out of these meetings (and you can bet, he'll get some nice help from White House insiders in the process) and at least be able to SPELL economy.

So why is it that 80% of Americans disagree with what McCain has been proposing (postponing debates, etc.)?

I was wondering when TJ would come and try to push a turd of spin out.

This one took a lot longer than normal. Spinmeister constipation?

Speaks volumes to the depth of the chaos in the McCain camp.

    Dear American People,

    God Bless America.

I didn't suspend my campaign because my poll numbers are going South faster than birds in October, or because even Republicans seem to think Obama's better at economical issues than I am. No way.

    God Bless America.

The fundamentals of the economy are good. No wait, I mean, this crisis is one worthy of my leadership and coalition-building skills.

    God Bless America.

I didn't say a single thing during the meeting tonight because that's what a good debater does. He waits, and waits, and waits, for the right moment to strike! Like a maverick! That's what Sarah Palin's doing too, just waiting for the right moment. Yeah.

    God Bless America.

    I approve this message.

    Signed,
    John McCain

Obama did indeed go to Washington after being the first of the Candidates to reach out in this time.

McCain's first idea was to form a commission.

McCain's idea of leadership was to call the fundamentals strong. Obama's to address the issues.

McCain flip flopped throughout the week on whether he was for deregulation or against it. Obama was steadfast in addressing the issues.

McCain didn't really suspend his campaign even. He lied to Letterman, and hasn't done anything.

Ask the head of the Senate Banking committee which of the two candidates has been in touch with him the whole time discussing the issue. The answer is Obama. McCain never once reached out.

Again McCain's idea............? Let's form a commission and study it. What a way to take action. Yeah that's leaderships.

Obama just told Wolf Blizter tonight that he can 'monitor the crisis' by phone.' So there you have it, folks, the biggest financial crisis in 100 years and you've got a candidate who thinks he can lead 'over the phone'. Wake up people, it's like the guy is purposefully avoiding leadership roles.

The guy avoids debates all season long, then when it's time to tackle a challenge, he'd prefer to stand around and talk instead of leading the nation. McCain has taken the bull by the horns and led. He took action -- he didn't just offer empty words.

    Amazing.

It only took you 8 words between the commas to completely contradict yourself.

That must be some kind of record.

Well, let's see leadership in action. When House Republicans decided to show up with their untenable alternative plan, Barack Obama patiently asked them to provide details but could not get answers. He then asked Paulson if the deal was feasible and Paulson replied that it was not.

What did John McCain do? After making a great show of "suspending his campaign" to go to Washington, he sat in the corner and said virtually nothing the entire time, doing nothing to help the process. Exasperated senators said afterwards that they did not need presidential politics in this process and that John McCain had done nothing to help since he arrived, and by implication, has actually worsened the situation.

This is what you call "leadership", T_J?

Why is it that when I read TJ's post and soak in the military imagery (rushing to the scene of the battle) used to describe McCain, I think of this guy...
