In Feigen's writeup of the big news today, we see the following response from Daryl Morey regarding an invasive examination of Landry's knee: [rquoter] The Rockets had requested that Landry undergo an invasive examination on his right knee, but Morey said Thursday that he was unsure if they would make that request again, saying it would depend on the doctor's recommendation. "With Carl's injury history, there is some risk, but we feel like it is manageable risk," Morey said. "We're excited to bring him back in because we feel he is a big part of what we're doing." [/rquoter] Apparently, the Rockets might be willing to back off that request, based on the team doctor's suggestions. After the last couple seasons, I've grown weary of our doctors' advice (maybe that's naivete on my part). I think we should play this extra cautious and get the knee fully checked out, so we can assess the pros/cons of trading him for another piece midseason. On the other hand, insisting on such a procedure could in itself lower his stock in the minds of other teams and delay his integration into the current squad.
i dont think it's a big deal due to his new contract's length. if his knee is in fact going to be causing chronic problems then move his ending contract after this season. lots of teams will be looking to trade for ending contracts next season as the summer of 2010 will come there after.
ROFLMAO !!! No Knee scope........if that is not telling, I don't know what is....well played Senor Morey...well played. DD
yeas I agree, this is a positive thing for Rockets. If he doesn't work out than Rockets will simply trade him.
Morey is the man! I say no to anything that will keep him off the court. If the knee starts to bother him again then they can look at it. He might be just fine and sticking holes in his knee just to see seems silly. It should be up to Carl and the doctors IMO.
If he needed one, and they were truly worried, he would have one, as the healing time is about a week...... DD
That just confirms the fact that the knee issue was a smoke screen to scare off other teams. If morey really thought it was such a big deal like he made it out to be in public, he would make him take it.
Not really. I had one and they hardly did anything and after a week while I could walk I was not close to ready for running action. I think 2 months is the more realistic time. Remember when he was out for two weeks just to let the swelling go down?
I don't believe he had any legit knee trouble over the summer. He signs his contract and then no knee scope after all the hoopla this summer. Most likely it was something to keep teams from using their full MLE on him so we could have an easy match.
Yeah I mean dropping the personal anecdotes, shoving an instrument in there will cause swelling. It would be a huge risk of an even larger problem then last year.
Agreed....and each person responds differently......I think they knew the whole time that he was OK, heck they let him play on it at the end of last year. And it seems like he was working out all summer..... I am ecstatic the way it played out. DD
I think insisting on the scope was more paramount when Landry was looking for the entire MLE. This is a fair contract to swallow. Insurance was always going to cover 80% in case of injury, the major issue was having a bum knee on the cap that we couldn't trade away. At $3M per and only 3 years, it isn't going to be a major concern.
A scope now won't do the Rockets any good. If everyone knows a scope was done and then they try to trade Landry, everyone will be afraid to take him. It'll ruin his trade value. We've already committed to the contract, so let it ride.
In reality, the knee affairs don't actually exist at all. morey fabricated the kneeinjury presence to lower carl's prize but his device didn't work. alaround, he signed landry back, which is the point. after all, 9m/3yr goes for carl's ability.
That's one theory, perhaps true. But we know that Landry has had numerous issues with his knee. I think it's a real concern, though maybe Morey took advantage of it to help keep Landry's market value down.
