Was the Rockets offer dependent on a scope?

If they use there $4.5 Mill offer? Landry is gone to the Bobcats! Mark my word, because there is no way they can match it! Unless L.Alexander is really willing to pay that luxary tax!

Bobcats offered Anderson Varejao 3yrs/17millions last summer and the Cavs matched it.
Bobcats offer Landry 3yrs/9millions this summer and Landry >>> Varejao!

This is a no brainer! Morey will get it done and match the offer!

Next, Dorsey and Mutombo and the rockets are set!

Those two were signed to five year, full MLE deals. Carl's two year deal is much more palatable should something go wrong.

Acquiring Artest was an all or nothing move. If one of Landry's knees bust up again they might not have much flexibilty to work out a suitable trade given the team's injury history and that they'll be over the cap.

Though the Bobcats offer does seem better for the Rockets as it includes a third year team option and the figures aren't far off from what the Rockets offered themselves.

If a scope was a prerequisite for the Rocks offer then maybe they can gamble on him as a trade asset in December by placing him in cotton wool until then?

    Some things:

The luxury tax doesn't take a hold at the beginning of the season, but at the end, so the Rockets will have time to make future moves if Les is so adamant about being under. Being over the luxury tax by signing TOOTH, Deke, and the Memphis Muscle is definitely worth the risk at this point in time.

As far as Deke is concerned, this guy stands to make more money accepting the minimum. He donates money to his native country in Africa. Every year he's been with the Rockets, the Rockets have raised money for Mutombo's hospital. He stands to make more than a million at the vet minimum plus all the money he will get from Tux and Tennies Gala that will likely go to his hospital. He will stand to make a lot more money playing this year than he would sitting on his arse or taking the vet minimum elsewhere; an all this and he is only needed to play half the regular season and all postseason....where do sign up for that job?

I don't see why we would really be so stingy about $$$ when a championship is on the table...even Larry Miller would go over the cap when a championship is guaranteed.........

MATCH IT NOW AND spend more $$$...

I really don't want to see a couple of million deny us a championship...and we're going to all in!!! and that means financially too!!!

If it is only nine million for three years, we will match it.

    This is awesome!!!

I think this about about what most felt was his value the last few months ... about 3 mil/yr, and I happen to agree. I'm relieved that no one offered him the full MLE, and limited what we could do with Deke and Dorsey. Now everyone can be happy.

They had him set the value on the open market, so Landry can hold is head up high. He's getting the pay of a high lottery pick for the next 3 years. Now we need to retain that value, by signing the offer sheet asap. I can't imagine Morey doing anything but. This has played perfectly into his hand.

Now, the Rockets can sign Dorsey to a multi-year contract, and give Deke a bit more.

I don't think it could have gone down any better.

    :)

    FINALLY ... lol

we should match the offer but - man people are over reacting for a guy who is going to be 8th or 9th man in our rotation at his best . he isnt going to log more than 20 min a game . yes the price is right but this signing doesnt have a huge impact on our team. we already have scola , who is a much nicer and bigger version of landry .

-- im not going to argue that hayes or dorsey are better than landry but i will assure u that they are solid players who are a nice change of pace from what scola brings to the table . so my hopes are that dorsey logs the minutes needed at 4 and 5 when asked.

I'm not sure they'll offer Deke more than the vet's min. Under LT he'll cost around $1.4 but only a dollar more and it'll be around $2.4M.

Scola and landry are different players. they bring alot different things to the tabel. but they compensate for eachothers weaknesses really well. they complement eachother very well.thats why keeping landry is paramount.

We're in balls deep (quest to win championship) with the trade for Artest. If signing Landry to a 3 year 9mil contract means we're hitting the LT then I say we do it. Oh and sign Deke while were at it too. All or nothing no in between crap.

I totally agree with you. Scolandry is what we need. If Landry is fit,the Rockets should match the offer.DM should try to be creative and look to trade Head for a future 1st if that can keep the Organization under the LT.

Exactly. btw, no sane GM would giveup a future 1st pick for luther. at best we can hope for is a mid or early 2nd round pick.
