wtf? Last I heard it was sold, not closed. I posted about it. Did it really close? btw: Jeff is vegetarian...so, y'all just being mean.
i assume you mean 2nd Avenue Deli, which is now on 33rd street. i used to eat at the original back in the day when i lived in the east village and before the owner got popped. haven't been to the new one but as it compared to katz's: chicken soup; 2nd Ave. > katz's pastrami sandwhich; katz's >>>>>>>>>>>>> 2nd Ave. JMO
Just FYI, I haven't been a vegetarian in almost a year, so delis are fine. I ate at one today in fact.
I highly recommend the pizza at Luigi's, just down the street from the Ed Sullivan theater. If you have never seen Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, you owe it to yourself. Empire State Building is really cool at night. See if you can get a Yankee Stadium tour before they tear it down.
Thanks for the suggestions, guys. One good thing is that I'll be back here in a few weeks, so whatever I miss now, I'll hit then.
I've never been for NYE. It's going to be a total circus, and I can't wait! I really need to update my winter wardrobe because if not, I'm going to freeze my little butt off.
Not to keep pimping Luigi's, but a story. I had just arrived in NYC. I checked into the Wellington Hotel. I went to the gift shop. The clerk had the typical NYC accent. I asked him where he goes for pizza closeby. He said Luigi's and gave me directions. It was great.
Jeff, do the half-circle boat tour, at sunset tomorrow! (No, I am not being creepy... I'm on the other coast.) It's just really interesting, affordable, and beautiful. You'll understand the city much better after that, and have some awesome photos to boot. I'm jealous of anyone who gets to visit in late Sept.
Have breakfast at Public, lunch at Spice Market, and Dinner at Budokan. Catch Spring Awakening. Go to Andrew W. K.'s place See the Chrysler Building over Empire State. Moma is a cool outing, and get dessert in the restaurant.
Unfortunately, it's going to start pouring down rain tonight and all day tomorrow thanks to a storm off the coast of the Carolinas. Woo hoo!
I ate at the original 2nd Ave. Deli for the first time when I was 7 years old....that was 1968. It was always a family favorite, and every time I went to NYC I ate there. So it moved from 2nd Ave. & 10th St. to 2nd Ave. and 33rd St.? I'm going to be in NYC next May so if it is open I will definitely visit.
Lombardi's on Spring street has the oldest coal oven pizza...taste great. stop by the Hello Deli to see Rupert...next to the late show theater.
