Since moving to the DC area a couple months ago I have become quite the Wizards fan. Unlike some others, I think Michael has put together a pretty good foundation. They have a potentially formidable front line with Kwame, Haywood, and White. They already have two potential 20-25 ppg scorers in Hamilton and Alexander, but without MJ they are severely lacking an on the floor leader/playmaker. I was just wondering who some of you think could be the best TRUE point guard entering the draft.

And my follow-up question. Has T.J. Ford expressed any interest to leave for the NBA this season?

And my next follow up question: how do you think Steve Logan will do in the NBA? I think he could be a good pass-first point guard. He seems to have good on the court vision and superb ball-handling ability, eventhough he only averages about 5 assists per game and is mainly thought of as a scorer in college.

Sure, if the Wizards manage to get the #1 pick they should definitely consider Jason Williams, but I don't know if there will be enough basketballs to satisfy him, Hamilton, Alexander, and an emerging Kwame.

I'm definitely ten times more of a Rocket fan than a Wizards fan, so I'd have no qualms with the Rockets stealing Kwame, but I do think the Wizards would be making a big mistake.

The biggest mistake the Wiz could make is passing on Jason Williams, who they won't be able to get anyway unless they trade up or get lucky. I really think he has the type of mindset to be a pass first point guard, which is the opposite of what most people think. What they don't realize is that Duke's offense is so wide open that he is not required to initiate the offense on every possession. When they run what is essentially a four guard lineup (JWill, Duhon, Ewing/Jones, Dunleavy), there are plenty of people who can handle the ball and get the offense going.

So, it is easy to overlook, unless you watch him closely, that he has great court vision and is a great passer. He shoots a lot, yes, but he's the best scoring option for that team, and Coach K wouldn't give him the green light if that wasn't the case.

As far as Logan goes, right now I look at him as a second rounder, although with some strong camp showings he could make a move up. He, unlike JWill, is not a true point guard, I don't think. Maybe this is just the residual effect of watching him be a 3-point specialist for Cincinnati the three years prior to this one. If he was truly made out for the point, Kenny Satterfield wouldn't have been able to move him over to the 2. However, he has really surprised me this year in stepping up to become a go-to guy--he looks a lot quicker than I remembered from the years before. I didn't think he could penetrate as well as he does. I see him as a kind of instant-offense back up point guard, but I don't think his game is complete enough yet to be an every day starter. But, if he were to improve every year like he did from last season to this one, hell, he could be an All-Star.

TJ Ford--players don't go to Texas to play for just one year. I think he's said before that he won't come out until he thinks he is lottery material, and so my guess is he'll have at least another two years at UT.

As far as pure PGs go, Duhon of Duke is probably the best of the lot. Though he probably would not leave until 2003 at the earliest.

Williams IMO, is more of a SG in a PGs body, ala Marbury.

Luke Ridnour is a great PG, probably the next Steve Nash, though I haven't heard if he's leaving or not.

Still have to go with Jason Williams, dude has been a man among boys this season.

But my favorite, though he's not a true PG, is Juan Dixon. I just get the feeling that he's going to be a very good pro, and could be one hell of a combo G at the next level.

T.J. Ford will probaly come out of school after next season if he continues to dominate the college game. As a freshman he already makes most opposing guards look like scrubs. You don't see very many early entries from Texas because they've never had the talent level that bigger name basketball schools enjoy consistently.

Take this for what you will, but TJ Ford has repeatedly said he's staying in school for four years.

I doubt a talent like him will stick around that long, once he realizes the kind of money he could make - but however long he decides to stick around is enough for me.

I think there is a small chance that Ford will stay all four years. As long as he stays healthy, college can only help him. He should work on getting a better jumpshot before he enters the draft IMO.

Personally, I find Bozeman from UCLA extremely intriguing because of his size. I don't think he's coming out though, but who knows?

This is probably the question of the draft. This draft, unlike last year, has many possible first rounders at PG, but who knows how they'll fall.

Frank Williams is probably the most highly thought of absolute PG coming out, but he's wildly inconsistent.

Dan Dickau is a pretty good one.

Brett Nelson is considering entering the draft, and though he had an off season, is very talented.

Lots of players talk about how important staying in school is and how education is one of their goals, but there aren't as many Tim Duncans or Grant Hills as there are Kobe Bryants and Allen Iversons.

Jason Gardner is a junior right? that guy reminds me of J-Will from Duke. Luke Ridnour is like White Jason Williams with a Jump shot. Frank Williams, Juan Dixon have NBA starter potential. TJ Ford and Cedric Bozeman are young, I see Bozeman being Tyus Edny rather than Baron Davis, I havent seen much of Ford, I cant really form an opinion on him.

Bozeman as Tyus Edney??? Errr...don't know what to say about that. Bozeman is still young--we should give him some more time to develop, but like Nike said, 6'7 points aren't exactly the standard, and it would certainly be the answer to all the "move stevie to the 2" doubters. The only thing I worry about with him: name one UCLA player that has improved while Lavin has been head coach...tough to find any.

Dixon I don't think can be an NBA starter. Like somebody mentioned above...I think he could be a backup combo guard, someone like Tony Delk except a little more dynamic.

Why are we worried about the Whizzards and their point guard needs? Shouldn't this be an NBA Dish thread?

I know it has been mentioned previously in this thread, but I would like to reaffirm that TJ Ford has definitely said that he would not go to the pros unless he is a lock for a lottery pick. I do not see that happening this year.

Rick Barnes lured Ford to UT by telling him that his abilities will not only elevate the status of basketball at UT, but also in the entire state. This is an undertaking which requires more than a single season in a burnt orange uniform to accomplish.
