So... another thread got me to thinking we should remove the discussion from it and open a more sensable one. Please only vote in the category you fit into, and then post it up on the thread if you wish... I will make it a multiple option poll. I play the drums. Fairly.
I started on guitar in '87. Broke my arm a couple of times and gave it up. I started teaching myself again in '98. I've been playing saxophone for 18 years. I got my degree in jazz studies. I play professionally. I double on flute and clarinet. I'm reasonably competent on piano. BTW, a sax is a woodwind but you put it in the horn category (which I guess means "brass") so I checked both boxes.
Yeah... Maybe I can change it?? I tried to update to "Brass/Horns" but it wouldn't change... said I cannot add a poll because the thread already has one. So please everyone just excuse my brain lapse, as I am not a horn player.
Dont be fooled, when I tried to "learn" the Triangle in primary school it ran rings around me. I had even less luck with the I-sausages (Isosceles) triangle a few years later.
I can play the Baritone but havent played one for years. I guess to most people it probably looks like a tuba. The one I used to play was that nice golden brass colour.....I miss playing it.
i play harmonica, though I can't decide if it is an oddity or a woodwind. technically it is a free reed wind instrument...
I can play bass....somewhat. I can play a song or two on a regular guitar, but not very well. My talents were always more on the engineering part, I have a good ear for live sound mixing. Bass and soundman have one thing in common.....you are out of the spotlight...that's my style. A shame I couldnt make it a career, I really love doing it.
I would probably call it an oddity based on this list... and the fact that a harmonica usually can be found near those listed in the category ... I guess I could have put "other" in my quest to be funny. Put it there... and we'll remember you're not a hillbilly. I mean, you do have a very NYC handle.
I've been playing jazz trombone for 9 years and bass guitar for 8. I've fallen out of practice with t-bone recently and am looking to getting back into the groove.
I play - lots of piano, classical & other. Keyboards too, though not as comfortable "jamming" without some sort of sheet music. Organ, a little, though it kicks my tail. Percussion: all the concert and symphonic stuff, can (and sometimes do) play it in my sleep. This does include xylophone among other things. Still working on drum set though. Woodwinds: learning them as part of my music ed. program, want to get halfway decent on clarinet and flute. I think that would be cool. Other instruments: tried a little guitar, haven't gotten anywhere really. Voice: I attempt to sing, choirs only (solos for me are not a good idea). Not too gifted in that area, but I like it so I keep trying lower and mid-level choirs for practice.
I play the Piano/ keyboard never played in a band, but I am sure I could. Been playing since 5 years old, 24 now.
