So the guy gets burned up in a plane crash and we get a bunch of knuckleheads arguing over his rank as a drummer...

    The internet it's fantastic.

Now this DJ AM cat....more like DJ L-AM-E.
Juse a one-dimensional remixer. This guy has NOTHIN on DJ Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk. I hope his family and friends get to knowing how overrated he is after he gets out the hospital

what a horrible story involving the assistant, and a tragic ironic twist that the two famous ones in the crash were the ones who lived. the pilots and entourage didn't make it out, yet these two celebrities have to live and relive that crash for the rest of their lives...

who f'n cares what kind of drummer the guy is? he's sitting in a burn unit mourning the loss of his assistant, who just left a widow and a newborn infant behind...

The pregnancy thing is not true.

Wife of Travis Barker Pal Not in Labor at Time of Crash, Rep Says
    Saturday September 20, 2008

Chris Baker - Travis Barker's pal who died in Friday's jet crash - was not on his way home to be with his pregnant wife, reps for Barker and DJ AM tell Usmagazine.com.

"Various outlets have published a grossly erroneous and exaggerated reported that the plane was chartered so they could get home for the birth of Chris Baker's second child. This is untrue," reps said in a statement to Us.

"The group chartered the plane to go to the next party they were playing out. In fact, Chris's wife was not in labor and she wasn't even pregnant. They already have a two-year-old child. That is not why they chartered the plane and this report is completely false."

What do you drummers/drummer enthusiasts think of Ringo? I remember reading about some reporter who asked John Lennon if Ringo was the best drummer in the world and he said something hilarious/cruel like "He's not even the best drummer in the Beatles." Ouch.

I can't really comment on Ringo as I'm not the biggest Beatles fan. I know the hits, and for what they are, they're all pretty good. But I don't know enough about him as a drummer to comment intelligently on his personal ability.

As for Barker, he really isn't that good. Sorry y'all. I'd say he's fair for what he does, but to call him one of the best out there is grossly misinformed, cuz it just ain't true. He's a run-of-the-mill rock & roll drummer from a run-of-the-mill cookie-cutter band that (sadly) had a few "hits," and that's pretty much it. Anyone who plays drums or has played with really good drummers will tell you this.

I feel bad for saying all that given the circumstances of this thread. I'm glad he's alive and expected to recover. Too bad for the other guys that didn't make it.

    RIP

I've never seen this site before so I don't know how reliable it is. There is also a funny clip of Will Ferrell answering e-mail below the plane crash article.

he isn't john bonham, ginger baker, neil peart, keith moon, or carter beauford...

but he is talented... much more so than the rest of the bands you'd hear on 94.5. and yes, i've been around enough drummers and i'm a musician myself.

I saw a well-known studio drummer give props to Ringo in a talk to young drummers, saying he gets made fun of because he wasn't flashy, but he actually did his job very well. Maybe no crazy licks or solos, but he was always right on with a solid rhythm and keeping the rest of the band together. Their music wasn't about showing off crazy solos after all.
