I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet, but Kanye West has a new single titled "Love Lockdown." I grabbed it off of iTunes last night. I think the tune is pretty amazing for what it is. There's absolutely no rapping whatsoever in the song. I guess I like it just because Kanye's not doing the same thing over and over, he's changing things up a little bit. Anyways, here's a link containing the song on Kanye's official blog: http://www.kanyeuniversecity.com/blog/?em3106=206428_-1__0_~0_-1_5_2008_0_0&em3161=&em3281= I don't know if this will be a big radio hit or not, but it's already #1 on iTunes.
I don't like how he's drifted away from rapping into this autotune stuff, but it definitely sounds different and isn't that bad.
It's called 808s & Heartbreak and get's released on December 16, 2008. From what I hear it's mostly auto-tune...
Oh yeah just listened to it. I hope he doesnt ditch rap altogether but this is cool. He closed the VMA's with this.
I don't know if I'd enjoy an entire album of songs similar in nature to "Love Lockdown," but I think it's an excellent track. I understand a lot of people don't care for Kanye's music and/or his attitude in general...however, I think he's got to be one of the most interesting mainstream musicians of the past 5 or 6 years. He's provided several unique hit songs in addition to strong album tracks. Also, his sound seems to change up quite a bit from album to album. Think about the progression from Through the Wire ---> Golddigger ---> Stronger ---> Love Lockdown. They all have a signature Kanye West sound, but they're all very unique, which isn't something most mainstream artists can really claim.
Terrible song if you are calling it rap. It just doesn't sound like typical Kanye. He should of released it under a pseudonym. Then I would have different feelings. Is he trying to be T-Pain with his voice?
It's obviously not rap. He's trying to go in a different direction with music the way no rapper has done before. Hopefully he doesn't completely give up his rapping career. Lil Wayne is even gonna try this new approach. He said something along the lines that if Kanye could do it, then so could he.
I'm sick of this vocoder crap. I think the production is pretty good but don't care much for the actual song.
I have had enough of this type of rap..... they saw it worked for tpain for a couple years... now everyone wants to follow that no talent.
I didn't care for T Pain, who wasn't unique at all. I think Kanye is a good musician. Download the cd quality version. It is decent.
I listen to so little mainstream stuff that the whole vocoder stuff hasn't really gotten stale for me yet -- I thought it was stupid at first, but when it's not overdone, it's good . . . I think this song is awesome, actually.
I like it. It's definitely a different direction from Kanye's typical stuff, which I'm admittedly not a big fan of. The only thing I don't like is the what one youtube commenter called "tribal/jungle" scenes in between verses, lol. That's pretty annoying. Aside from that though, a pretty solid song from Kanye. On a side note, check out "I put on" and listen for Kanye's part. Absolutely ****ing sick in what's otherwise a god-awful song from Young Jizzstain.
All I hear are heartbeats and the word "love" with every other heartbeat. I got bored after the 10th love.
I love how I explicitly mention there is no rapping in the song, no one claims its rap, and its obvious that Kanye is just trying out a new sound...but we still have people that post "this stinks if you think it is rap!!!"
Heres another Kanye song where he just kills it. High intensity from start to finish. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/MHbzgzFiV18&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MHbzgzFiV18&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
