http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3594778 This just doesn't happen in the NBA. They always make the right call .... Transparency, anyone?
It's good the ref is owning up to his mistake instead of the typical NBA approach. This is sort of off topic but the NBA just isn't as marketable or appealing to the general public. It's why it doesn't get much respect.
Also because the NBA is not taking the instant replay approach. It would also be a smart idea to offer challenges to the coaches rather than the players arguing and getting a technical.
I still run into lots of people who proudly declare they stopped watching the NBA after Jordan's retirement because "it's so full of those damn hip-hopping streetballing thugs!" Most of these people are avid NFL fans. When I point out that there are probably more "thugs" in the NFL than the NBA they...kind of plug their fingers in their ears and start yelling "LALALALALALALALALA!!!"
I can really only thing of one thug atm. Josh Howard. NFL... Wow. There are people getting shot in the NFL, people doing drugs, DUIs all the time. I mean compared to the NBA...
Sucks for the Chargers. What happens if they miss the playoffs by a game? He might need some protection. If he thinks it's bad now he better hope the Chargers make the playoffs. But it's good to know that he knew what he did and tried to own up to it. Surely better than NBA where Stern would act like its all good and say something like "it happens". He defends his officials way too much to the point where they could do no wrong. Guys like Bennett Salvatore and Tony Brothers can willingly screw us over and smile about it because they can do no wrong under the wing of Stern.
David Stern. He doesn't give a damn about the referring. Kicking out Joey Crawford was less than an eyewash.
It doesn't help that the NBA canceled its weekly show with Ronnie Nunn (supervisor of officials) last season. He did a decent job of discussing controversial calls of the week. That was some transparency...apparently it was too much.
If a pro sport has so many controversial calls that it needs a weekly show to explain them, then it needs to examine it's officials or it's leader. Like that'll ever happen in the NBA!
The only thing I remember about that show was they only picked the few clips where the officials actually made the right call. They very rarely picked the controversial calls / no calls during the week.
I remember the whole Kobe elbow suspension stuff was discussed. And then there was a host and a rotating guest (ex players, Fred Carter, Vescey) so they would go over calls and they'd agree or disagree with Nunn. The only problem I had with the show was that Nunn was definitely biased in favor towards the refs...it was too obvious. Still, it was a good show to watch.
Well in the NFL Network they always review some of the controversial calls of the week with Mike Pereira he is the Vice President of Officiating in the NFL.
not nearly enough white stars in the NBA hurts it a lot IMO. in football its mostly black, but there are still plenty great white players, especially quarterbacks which many say is the most important player. i know ill probably get flamed for saying it, but do believe it plays a big part in it.
I agree with you 100%. It's not like most NFL/MLB fans don't like basketball in general..because we know they love college basketball.
dude i never thought about it like this, but I have to agree with you totally. This makes a lot of sense!!
