you are giving "most coaches" too much credit. not every coach would forced that team to be defense first. what if D'antoni coached them or instance ? they probably would not been able to beat cleveland. Doc is a very good coach, better than most coaches in the league and deserves whatever he is getting.
He's just not that good of a coach and has yet to prove himself to be one. Winning a championship with KG, Pierce, and Allen doesn't really prove anything. He's a solid defensive coach and with Tibs on his side they were unstoppable but his offense is a joke. No reason for a team with those 3 to get so stagnant and he cycles players in and out like musical chairs w/o giving them time to get any kind of rhythm going.
Seriously, why did you ever raise that subject? I just can't think of how anything I posted was racist/could have ever been implied to be racist to any degree.
You're right. Mr. Thibbs deserves as big an extension as any. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes but we know as Rockets fans that he is always responsible for great D. Undersung.
What that meant was race is brought into many subjects / conversations when there is no need for it. Not that you always mention race.
KG, who had one playoff past the first round, ray allen who was non existent and at this point is over the hill, and paul pierce does not equal automatic championships. you guys act like he got lucky, they had the best record also. he did what he was supposed to do in everyone's mind (and what he was supposed to do wasn't that easy)
He deserves it. He got the team to focus on defense and got 3 stars to coexist in their first year together. He also brought along a young PG and C and made them contributors. Prior to the season most didn't think Rondo could get it done. And he took Jackson's pants off in the Finals.
Wait, are we talking about KG/Thibodeaux or Doc? I think they had much more to do with all the things Rivers is credited for. And, I thought people were really selling Rondo and Perkins short since the trade. They were both good young role players who wouldn't try to do too much. I can't say he doesn't deserve an extension because he coached the team that accomplished the highest goal in basketball. I just think he was one of the weaker links of a really good team. There are just so many coaches better than him.
They got pushed to 7 games by a team with a losing record and an utterly ****ty squad that only has one guy worth watching(, barely). Think about that.
they still haven't signed tom thibideau yet... i wonder how that team will do if they don't resign him.
he earned it. i highly underestimated his coaching ability. he was the reason why the celtics kept their head straight in the finals, it wasnt pierce it wasnt kg
Would the first team you are speaking of be Atlanta? Yeah they had a bad record but seemed to match up well with Boston with all that athleticism, a big wing and a steady PG in Bibby. The other team you are referring to is Cleveland....the team with arguably the most dominant player in basketball...the kind of player that can take over a series as long as his teammates play defense and hit open shots (remember when we had a dude like that??). In either case, Ray Allen was playing like garbage in both of those series, and Boston still won.
I'm talking about Doc. It was his decision to bring in Tom and get the team focused on defense. That proved to be the difference in the Finals. And you think Doc (solid PG) had nothing to do with Rondo developing into a decent PG so quickly?
Wait, what coach has proven himself to be a good coach? Rivers already won COY with a crap squad that no one thought would win any games. That right there puts him ahead of guys like Phil who only win with good teams. So he's had success with bad teams, and he won a ring with a good team. He's done everything you can do in coaching.
