So why would PETA give money and support to organizations that attack researchers and destroy data that might lead to cures for any number of diseases? Don't we have an innate interest to avoid suffering?

dunno. sure. if you're talking about that firebombing thing, of course i don't condone that.

reread the posts - personally, i'm in general agreement with most of the posters here who think there are some folks in peta who have their priorities mixed up. but every now and then, they turn up an important story like this.

but it's important to know about some of the cooler heads in the spectrum.

What is the purpose of castrating a piglet and cutting off it's tail? That was just a nasty video.

If PETA wasn't so extreme it would get a lot more support.
It calls for people to vegetarians all the time and in a very condescending way.

That said, I don't want to watch the video and I'm sure it's awful. Hormel and those employees should be punished. Just because you eat animals doesn't mean there shouldn't be humane treatment.

I don't hunt but I watch hunting shows, and it was surprising to me all the talk about humane kills/killing deer the right way. I think that's good.

You don't use painkillers/anesthetics when doing animal euthanizations because the drug commonly used (phenobarbital) has anesthetic properties itself and the euthanization is basically an overdose of that drug. It's not like a lethal injection where a few different drugs are administered in stages.
