I have slipped on my gaming since graduatiing college. Other than mlb 2k8, nba 2k8, Metal Gear Solid, GTA4, and COD4 I have had nothing new. I don't really play anything other than COD4.

That said, what is a good single player game? It can be RPG, Action/adventure, or even a platformer. I've been bididng my time playing castle crashers on 360 with my roomate, but while the power is down and I'm at my house, I'd really like to start a long single player game.

    Any ideas?

    I have everythinh except Wii.

A nice RPG will keep you busy for hours on end. Some of my all time favorites:

    Chrono Trigger
    Final Fantasy 3
    Final Fantasy 2
    Final Fantasy
    Earthbound
    Secret of Mana

I was actually so bored at an old job that I put Nesticle and some roms on a disc (yup, that's how long ago it was) and played Final Fantasy for hours each day. I ended up beating it with 4 white mages. Another good (but addicting) game that is online is Runescape.

Assassin's Creed is awesome...but admittedly repetitive; still it's a great game if you love exploring and platforming.

And then Bioshock...not your typical shooter which worried me; but it has an incredible story and ambience.

It's a good mix of both action and story telling. Unlike, for example, Final Fantasy, which is great on story telling and not much action. (just point and click fighting) Also unlike Halo, which is mostly just a shoot-em-up game without much plot that matters. (at least in my opinion)

I think it's a good mix of both worlds.

I guess if you're really looking to critique, there's nothing mind-blowingly innovative or even great about the gameplay, in and of itself. For example, if I just wanted to play a battle game, I would still play Halo or something.

But it's the combination in action and storyline that makes Mass Effect cool.

To me, I get bored playing Halo alone, but it's fun to play with friends. Mass Effect is a single player game that very engaging all on it's own.

I know a lot of people are excited about this game. Mainly folks that liked playing World of Warcraft.

The best single player game I have played for the last few years is Resident Evil 4. I have not played any current generation games though. So I hope this helps. If you have a ps2 or a GC and haven't played RE4, then that is the first game you should play.
