Check the stickied thread... I posted a link that shows road-closings/high water areas. Also, there's a curfew in Houston from what I understand.

Also check out some of these threads... people are saying there are boats on I45. Be careful - once you get there, you may realize you can't get where you need to.

59 is apparently ok. Curfew only applies to people that have no business being out. If you can demonstrate a legit reason for being out, then they won't hassle you ...until dark. After dark, curfew is more strict.

Thanks, when I said you are great DaDakota I mean it sincerely...and thank you Dr of Dunk as well. I apologize for the thread. It was a decision me and my wife made today on leaving suddenly, and my first reaction is this place as a source of info...

BTW, we rented a Dodge Durango and at this very moment, I'm on my wife's laptop with wireless connection (amazing how much faster it is than the desktop)...My sister-in-law also is with us...We have 2 extra gas tanks, and a small emergency supply...(my wife's driving sucks btw...I'll be getting the late shift)

    Expected arrival 5:30 a.m....

I wish I could be coming to Houston under better scenarios...

My principle concern for my mother and others is a possible lack of power for up to 4 weeks!!!! Are you kidding me??? Direct TV
tapped into local Houston 11 and I understand they have the broadcast on 104 radio as well...This lack of power thing for too long is what made the decision for me after I already considered it...

I sincerely hope and pray for everyone here. I'm so sorry this happened...

p.s. flights are still closed per my wife...

IAH opens in the morning. As of Monday, Continental is resuming normal operation.

That's good news - I've got connecting flights through IAH with Continental Thursday - I wasn't necessarily worried about my flights, since they're later in the week, but there was still some concern about how/when things would resume, and if they would try to make up any of the flights that were missed...

    Roxran;

I don't know if your mother is in serious danger but if she isn't you might want to consider waiting as all I'm hearing on national news is telling evacuees to stay put for the moment and not try to come back.

Good luck and hope your mom is OK and by all means stay safe and don't take any unnecessary chances while you're travelling.

Thank you so much for the kind words...

    "Operation Rescue Mom"...mission accomplished!

I have been back in Nashville since what Tue. morning...It was crazy...We got there in Houston on mon about 5 am...dark streets, busting thru police checkpoints, manuevering through the neighborhood due to the fallen streets...Took a nap for about 5 to 6 hours, packed up, had my Mom speak to neighboring friends about watching her house...At this point the fight or flight adrenaline was freaking gone...

Nobody wanted to drive back...Everybody wanted to sleep..Everybody, even me was moody, but the sights were crazy...It looked like a war zone...people were lining up for cars up to 100 cars deep...Some pushing their vehicles...Then in Marshal, Tx on the way up, some guy in a freaking pick up truck hoarded gas like there was no tommarrow...20 or 25, 5- gallon gas continers getting filled up in front of us at the Shell station!!!!!

Nuts...The deal was my Mom has a heart condition. I did the right thing...Unlike me, my mom is not into being uber prepared...No reinforced bunker, no generator, no chainsaw...just some water...I could write a freaking book on being prepared for SHTF, but my nightmare was having a direct family member under this situation...She is fine...

Seriously, the deal is we got her a flight back this Sunday...FEMA has a hotel room set for her till Oct. 14th..

She really has intention and motivation to sell the house (it's paid for), and to move with us after December while making plans to put the house on the market...

It hurts my heart to see this and (worse) the aftermath happening to my hometown...Hope recovery will hasten for all!
