A question to those that remember the glory days. In a best of 7 series, which Championship Rockets team would win and why: The Rockets of 1994 or 1995? I'm expecting a 50-50 split on this.
I think the '94 team would take a 3-1 series lead only to see the '95 team win the last 3 games of the series, including a decisive game 7 on the road.
"No one ever done what this team has done, come form the 6 seed down in series and we had non believers all along the way, i have one thing to say, dont ever underestimate the heart of a champion!" Rudy T 1995
We had Drexler on Rockets 1995, that's the reason why we could win the seventh of the series.More stars means more likelihood of winning the keygames.
They would go to 7 games and play an infinite number of overtimes with an infinite number of clutch shots and defensive stops. The first team was exactly what was needed for that year. Thorpe was a man inside against the Knick thugs while Max was indispensable in getting us through the early rounds and nobody should forget that or diminish that by comparison to the second. The second team was exactly what was needed for that year. Drexler was the fire that got us through and nobody should forget that or diminish it by comparison to the first. As Rudy said, it's like choosing between two of your children. No sane parent would ever do that.
There are some voting here that probably never saw both teams so I doubt its a legit poll. so some people are talking out of their butt. Drexler did face Maxwell in 1994 in the playoffs. We know what happened, if you didn't google the results. Drexler didn't magically get better in 1995. The other difference would be Otis Thorpe vs 95 Horry, then you have 94 Horry vs 95 Elie. People glorify the 95 team cause of the amazing comeback from 3-1, but the 94 team was more consistent from the beginning of the season to the championship. 95 Horry was transformed into the modern day Big Shot Rob. But 94 Horry was dunking on everybody Horry.
what crap are you pooping now? both 1994 and 1995 teams had game 7s and won. Voting needs to exclude all rookies.
1994 Rockets vs 1994 Blazers Playoffs With the exception of the last game (Which we still won) the Mad Max vs the Glyde matchup has been very close. Drexler never had the explosive 40 point games we saw him in 1995 cause the other teams didn't have a good defender as Mad Max. http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/199404290HOU.html Drexler 26 Points Maxwell 24 Points http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/199405010HOU.html Drexler 13 Points Maxwell 17 Points http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/199405030POR.html Drexler 22 Points Maxwell 19 Points http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/199405060POR.html Drexler 23 Points Maxwell 7 Points
This is a hard one, many would think that the 95-team is better but I don't really know. Obviously Drexler was a much more consistent player then Mad Max but on the other side, the 95-team was pretty weak inside, OT and Hakeem was awesome on the rebounds but after OT left Houston became a terrible rebounding-team and when Hakeem took a nap at the bench Houston didn't had a inside-presence at all and fact is that Drexler had his best reboundingyear in Houston, that says it all about how terrible rebounding-team we were so I would probably say it's a tie. Both teams had their own against each other but after all I have to give it to the 95-team, Horry got one year better and so did Sam, Hakeem was great and if not better he was just as good and Drexler is Drexler. (Tinman likes yellow snow)
you should have limited the poll to non rookies. cause some of them are just faking that they know anything about the rockets.
Yeah, I guess when Kenny Smith is dropping 7 three pointers in a game, there's no team on the planet that can stop us. also Barkley missing those free throws to ice us Nick Anderson missing those free throws And David Benoit taking all those shots in the 4th quarter for the Jazz We had destiny on our side!
Alot of players were on both teams and would cancel themselves out. So we would have to look at what tandem would be better OT & Mad Max or Clyde & Chucky Brown. Clyde is the best player out of the bunch, but I would put my money on OT & Mad Max. '94 would win in 7.
I resent these statements, but I guess we are all entitled to say bonehead things, but what do I know I'm just a rookie.
clyde drexler > otis thorpe That 95` team earns the spot as one of the greatest ever...or it should. IMHO that rockets team is the only team to come back 1-3 (the pistons were against an 8 seed one man team) Also i think they had the toughest path to the finals ever. 4 50+ win teams.
