The ceiling fan in my living room has 1 light fixture in the middle of the fan. The fixture has a short in it and the light will not stay on so I am assuming that I need to replace the fixture (where the bulb screws in). Does anybody know how difficult this will be? I mean I have replaced switches and cords on fans before but not the light fixtures. Any help is appreciated.

Do you live in or near Houston? If so, I wouldn't worry about a light fixture for a few days at least.

Its pretty easy. First remove the globe then remove the 3 small screws that hold the light fixture. The fixture will drop down then disconnect the 2 wires that connect the fixture to the ceiling fan. Home depot sells the replacement fixtures for about $20.00.

But if you have an old ceiling fan it might be better to buy a new one. Get a good one like Hunter or Hampton Bay.

Be sure to turn off the breaker to the ceiling fan before you start working on it.

If it is an old cieling fan, you may have a problem. The new light kits do not fit old fans. At least, that is the situation I faced recently.
