Katrina was a 4 and hit land as a 2. Ike is a 2, so it is very feasible that it could as well drop two notches into a tropical storm before it hits. The thing hasn't strengthened 1 bit in the past 24 hours.
How bad do you guys think the wind damage will be in Humble near Bush airport? We have too many dogs and are not leaving them so we are riding it out with them.
Sorry for the delay, gf got home.... I heard it on weather channel, they just got a report from the plane.
billingsley did show that the majority of that dry air it sucked in had dissipated and there is still potential for either it remaining and becoming more organized or going up 10+ mph
The National Hurricane Center is betting on us not getting hufrricane strength winds. Houston has only a 31% chance of Hurricane force winds now. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIAPWSAT4+shtml/120241.shtml?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_katrina Katrina made its second landfall at 6:10 a.m. CDT[3] on Monday, August 29 as a Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 125 mph (205 km/h) near Buras-Triumph, Louisiana. At landfall, hurricane-force winds extended outward 120 miles (190 km) from the center and the storm's central pressure was 920 mbar. After moving over southeastern Louisiana and Breton Sound, it made its third landfall near the Louisiana/Mississippi border with 120 mph (195 km/h) sustained winds, still at Category 3 intensity.[3] http://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/at200511.asp http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/research/2005/katrina.html With sustained winds during landfall of 125 mph (110 kts) (a strong category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale) and minimum central pressure the third lowest on record at landfall (920 mb),
Edit - Max I got Rita and Katrina mixed up. Rita was a 5 and went in as a strong 2. Katrina did hit as a strong 3. I'm not trying to dismiss the severity of Ike, but it really doesn't look very well put together to me and the fact that the pressure is rising looks like it is getting weaker.
it may very well get weaker...but the wind speeds haven't decreased as of yet...and i doubt seriously that in 24 hours before landfall this thing will drop to a TS. i could certainly see it dropping to a Cat. 1.
Mayor white is going a bit overboard right now, don't you all think? Start praying to a higher power?
