why would they cancel a flight that long before the bad weather even hits the airport? That doesn;t make any sense. It won't happen.
because bad weather will be at the airport well before 9:15 tomorrow evening. storms don't start when the eye passes over...we're talking about 30-40 mph winds in Houston starting tomorrow morning or early afternoon with storms.
and any airline worth it's wight will start flying as many planes as they can out of IAH in the next 24 hours to get them out of harm's way. http://blogs.chron.com/continental/2008/09/continental_gets_ready_for_ike.html
That's stupid. It's a commuter school, what about those kids who live in the vulnerable parts of town and need to evacuate now?
Commercial planes try to avoid doing so because it's dangerous.... especially when those winds are unpredictable like from, I dunno, the outer bands of a hurricane. If you're landing into a headwind of 40mph and it suddenly stops, you can stall the plane and it falls like a brick.
well guys if we are still here after this is done, hurricane after party at my place. I'm here for the duration, best of luck to all of you.
I'll hold you to it R2K. I am with you. My grandma, my mother, 3 dogs, brother, wife and I will be here for the duration.
you should call in anonymously and voice your concerns that a supervisor is giving false information in direct conflict with a harris county judge. if you're not in harris county just figure out who made the order.
That is a good idea, we are still planning to leave either way at noon. We will have to fight it with this clown after this is all over. If they give her anymore crap I will just have plaster the company's name everywhere I can. sssssmmmmmeeeeeaaaaarrrrrrr job!!
BTW, I am shutting down and best of luck to everyone. I hope everyone is safe and they have minimal damage to property

Right now the projected path brings the eye just to the west of Sugar Land. So, Sugar Land may get hit hard but we're inland by 50+ miles.
