Sam has looked pretty bad everytime I have seen him out there for GS. Maybe he really does need a Hakeem or Barkley down low to be effective. I certainly overrated his abilities based on his recent stint with the Gizzards and us, though I think he still would have been a nice addition to the Spurs this year with Elliot out (he is better than that Jakcson fellow).

Serves the jerko right for skipping out on the pre-season and part of the regular season. I wish nobody even game him a look at all. In my opinion, he's a dumbass for thinking he could be productive after a stunt like that. He should have just skipped the whole season and come back next year.

I think his performance had much more to do with the time off than not having an Hakeem or Barkley down low. He had no such players in Vancouver, and put up good numbers there. Missing all of training camp, preseason, and half the regular season and then coming into an unfamiliar situation can't be an easy thing to do.

Particularly when a new coach has just taken over and thrown out the old coach's playbook.

As soon as Jacobson showed anything at all, St. Jean chose to go with the younger player.

ya it's official i came online to post this and someone beat me to it. should we sign him? he fit in great with rudy's system both times we had him and i think it was just a matter of bad coaching in golden state. he was very productive for us and could be again do we want him? i think we s hould sign him since afterall golden state will be the ones paying him not us. don mclean signed somehwere last week also with the suns i think. that makes me mad because the rockets are paying him too

I still like Mack but I don't think there is any chance the Rockets will sign him. On the Rockets' part, if they wanted to sign him they probably would have signed in the off season. I know they didn't agree on the terms of his contact, but it's also a fact that the Rockets chose Shandon over him. Besides, we already have Bull and Walt, what's that Mack can offer that the Rockets don't already have? On Mack's part, the scar may be too deep. I know it's all professional, but aside from his unwise (let's use this word for a moment) demand, he was screwed by the Rockets -- he gave up his starting role to come back, he did pretty well, he wanted a contract, he didn't get it, lost his bird rights and ultimately his job for the longest time.

MacLean played for the Suns against the Warriors last night. 10 minutes, 5 fouls, 0-2 shooting, 2 turnovers.

I would rather hace a 2 million Mack than a 4 million Walt or 2 million Bullard. But it isn't going to happen, and quite frankly with Mobes and SA he really doesn't afford us much (unless of course we lose one of them). If I were Sam's agent I would work my tail off to send him to the Spurs, Lakers (especially if Rice leaves) or Wolves. To express it differently--I'll borrow Will's phrasing--I would get him around him a young LION where he can play the shooting specilist role.

I haven't heard official word on this, but a usually reliable source has posted this to a Warriors fan board.

Like many Warriors, Mack simply had a season where nothing went right -- Sam Jacobson came in around the same time he did and found his shooting eye a little quicker, and particularly with the trade for Larry Hughes and Billy Owens (who had played for St. Jean in SAC), the available minutes at SF and SG dried up.

Mack is apparently being let go because Golden State wants to audition some more young players, most likely at PF or C, where the team's worst problems remain (for example, take Jason Caffey ... please!).
