That's good news for McCain, but what amazing me is that his % among Republicans went down 1% after the convention. How can that be? He surely solidified the base more with the convention and addition of Palin. Something tells me that this poll has some flaws in it.

By the way, these national polls will mean less and less as we get closer to the convention. The only thing that matters are the state polls because it is an electoral race. Just ask Al Gore, the president that never served.

To me I just hope that the media gets put in check. I don't care if they are favoring Republicans or Democrats!!!

    Media should be impartial!!!

I like Chris Matthews, but he was commenting not reporting.

If Reporters want to implement change, the I suggest they run for office.

That is interesting considering how conservative Palin's views are. My own feeling is as this thread might be indicating, is that there is some backlash towards the media and the McCain campaign has successfully parlayed media victimhood for Palin to make her more appealing as an outsider for independents. Also I was impressed with McCain's speech and message of sacrifice for country which has probably played very well with independents.

There's been a lot of party-identification changes since 2004 - with the number of people identifying themselves as Republicans dropping. I think what happened was that McCain's speech reminded them of the "good" side of the GOP and, while still calling themselves independents, it caused them to shift back to McCain. I thought McCain's speech was far more effective in moving voters than Palin's was. The question will be whether that move lasts or not.
