Anyone else notice that the gas prices in Houston increased to $1.13 last week, and has now jumped up again to the $1.21-23 range?

Seriously, anyone know the reason for this sudden increase in gas prices?

    It really pisses me off!

I'm just wondering if something happened to cause this sudden increase...

So...anyone notice the sudden increase and/or why it happened?

Here's a hint: what else is taking place this week (and next week, depending on your location)...?

Another hint: it involves driving. Lots of driving, for a lot of people.

A-Train the magnificent will now predict and increase in gas prices this summer, when a lot of people take vacations....then, the prices will go down during the winter again, the same thing that has happened for the past 20 years...

It's not really Exxon or Phillips who raises the price -- it's OPEC. Thankfully, they didn't raise the price last summer (it was already almost 2 dollars per gallon), but I wouldn't count on that this summer . . .

Oh, and it's spelled "gouge" :)

I love how everyone feels gouged....that's just funny to me.

I doubt very seriously that if you had a commodity to sell, that you would lower your prices (or not raise your prices) during a time of high demand.

Oil companies are gearing up for the summer season, which usually has more drivers than winter. Gasoline has different requirements between the winter and summer seasons, so these companies will try to sell off their remaining winter blends and start producing summer stuff for the real profits. We normally see a price hike each spring around April because of this, but with the announcement of OPEC on another volume cut back, the price hike is here early.

Motorists have another 15 to 25 cents per gallon of gasoline price increases to endure before the summer is over, according to forecasts by the U.S. Department of Energy.

The weekly average gasoline price is expected to peak between $1.52 and $1.62 by June, the department said Monday.

It sees a nationwide pump price average of $1.46 for regular-grade gasoline during the April-September driving season. Although below last year, this would be the third highest on record.

Ethanol isn't much more expensive, but the US doesn't have the supply....yet. What would the effects be to OPEC if the US went went to a 20% ethanol mixture in about 7 years?

Hey, is it fair to compare the United States with countries like England in terms of gas pricing? There are what, maybe 10 times the number of cars here than there?

I wonder how Iraq's moratorium on oil exports will effect prices . . .

Hardly at all, I think. Any demand for oil will quickly be supplied by the other competing Arab nations. Hussein's embargo on oil exports is nothing but a symbolic gesture; even he knows it.

It won't last long; he needs the money more than we need his oil...

I have a friend at church who is an O&G industry analyst...he says they don't really count on production from Iraq when pricing oil....it's always assumed that it's too unstable to count on, according to him.
