Why does he need details? He didn't say he wanted to do it himself, he said he wants suggestions on a good plumber.
Hopefully you could shut the water off to your house. I'd then go to Home Depot or Lowe's and ask for their advise. You'll probably wind up going there anyway to get the things suggested on this board. As for our suggestions, we need more info: can you get to it, how did it break, is it a broken in two or a hole, etc. If you want a plumber, I always had good service by dialing (281 or 713)777-7777. I forget the name of the company, but they have big adds in the Houston yellow pages. It's been 3 or 4 years since I had to use them & I don't live in Houston anymore.
I would call my insurance company and see if they have any recommendations for a plumber. Note that I am not suggesting that this is covered by your insurance, but that they may deal with this sort of thing in their day to day business.
It's not covered by insurance. I'm definitely NOT doing it myself. I've already shut off the water and there wasn't any significant damage. I just need someone reliable and fair.
I wouldn't suggest the stripper with the strap-on from the other thread. she might be able to impede the water flow...but i don't think she has much of a plan after that.
Perhaps you misunderstood my recommendation. As I stated, I am not suggesting that this is covered by insurance, but I assume that insurance companies deal with this sort of thing all the time and they may have a list of recommended plumbers.
Abacus Plumbing may not be the cheapest, but they are really good. You can be part of their club thing and pay a monthly fee, but that gets you a discount and everything you pay reduces the cost of some future need. Which, if you have an old house like mine, comes in handy. Plus, you get a free annual checkup when you are part of the program (though I'm sure it ends up being not free as they'll find something to fix, but still). http://www.abacusplumbing.net/ EDIT: Tom Tynan's endorsed companies all aren't the cheapest, but I've done some remodeling as someone who knew nothing about what they were doing and many of Tynan's guys have been really reliable and good. http://www.homeshowonline.net/hs2/client_partners.asp I've used Abacus, Dempsey, Gulf Coast Windows, Rudy's Painting, etc. I've used other, cheaper, good people, too, but I am nowhere close to being able to "flip a house" or sub out a complex job, so when it comes to I really need someone fast and good and willing to pay a little more, I check his website.
i've got a personal plumber who i trust 100%. Email me your number through the board. I can give him a ring to see if he'd like the work. what part of town do you live in?
