Why? I'm asking seriously what you think makes her qualified to be a good VP and/or President which is the most important qualification of a VP. It can't be her grasp of foreign policy, and detailed knowledge of how to run a nation at war. She's admitted that she didn't really have to time to focus much on the Iraq war, and once called it God's war. It can't be her sharp intelligence, and academic knowledge of how to run large organizations. She advocated allowing Creationism as an alternative to be brought up in Science class. She mocked the idea of someone being a community organizer and helping to make a difference in the poorest of communities. She addressed the Alaskan Independence secessionists in a welcome video in which she told them to "keep up the good work" Her own campaign won't let her speak to the media. Is she really ready to meet with tough foreign leaders? It can't be her amazing honesty and reformer tendencies. She was in favor of the bridge to nowhere, and changed later, but kept all the money. She lied about against earmarks, and govt. pork barrel spending since she hired lobbyists to bring more Govt. pork barrel spending to Alaska. She tried to have books banned from a public library, and then wanted to get the librarian fired for not agreeing with her. Her speech didn't had almost no talk about substantive issues. I will say that she has some real knowledge on energy policy. Could that be the reason? In the threads immediately after her speech I heard people say they liked her because she was tough, and could field dress a moose. Are these really the reasons to put her one heart beat away from the most powerful position in the world. It seems like voting for a ticket that includes her is like voting for the lowest common denominator. So I must be missing something. Why do people actually support her?
Because her political career represents success at what I've personally been trying to do in politics.
I will elaborate later, when I've got a computer and not with boring people in a bar posting from an iPhone.
She gets my vote because she's good looking and just by looking at her I know I can trust what she says.
Like I said in another thread, public opinion about Palin will change a lot when she stops being a "symbol" of [name your thing or two] and instead becomes a flawed politician after being harshly examined and exposed by the press and her political opponents. The honeymoon will end and it may not be pretty. I'm gonna go out on a limb right now and say that unless Obama hits a major stumbling block that derails him, the election is now his to lose. The GOP convention, which was tasty read meat for the base and a feel-good intro for Palin, will end up being a lost opportunity for McCain. Being a former POW won't carry him for 60 more days and selecting Palin will come back to haunt him. She is at her peak right now and there is nowhere to go but down. It's just a matter of how far.
She's physically attractive, a typically charismatic speaker that can often appeal to a large slice of the "common people," and relatively inexperienced at high levels of political leadership. She's also a bit of a novelty in terms of candidates for a presidential ticket in that she is not a white male. I don't see what the problem is.........isn't that in vogue this presidential season?
No. Obama didn't win the nomination and leading in polls because he isn't a white male. He has accomplishments, intelligence, and a record of his judgment for voters to judge. He's also ready and willing to give interviews. Does most of what you mentioned really qualify someone for the most powerful position in the world? I'm not just talking about experience or lack there of.
I disagree, but that isn't what this thread is about. What are her qualifications that cause people to support her.
Obama's honeymoon ended a long time ago and he's been through several tough moments where he could have cracked. He was in 20+ debates and every policy position he's taken has been discussed ad naseum. After Palin gets the same treatment and has to pick herself up off the ground after a good punch to the gut, let's she how "pretty" she still looks. Besides, the subject is Palin. Please keep it there, though maybe that makes you uncomfortable.
Well what reason does it matter why I vote somebody? I happen to have a job that deals with a lot of the major energy companies and I think she has the right idea on expanding our nation's energy independence. The majority of people on this board who are Obama supporters who go out and vote, really votes to no avail. All the threads that are started about this election, really what do they count for? Its a lot of liberal dudes talking to each other trying to gang up on like 5 vocal conservatives. Its not like he's going to pull Texas. Just save yourself the trip to the voting booth and sit at home and watch the coverage from home.
It matters to some of us, because we enjoy looking at politics, and what motivates people in their political beliefs whether they agree with us or not. Sometimes it's even more fun to try and understand the reasoning behind people who don't agree with us.
