Can someone give me a summary of Smallville...from the series premiere? All of a sudden, the show looks more interesting with the young super friends.
I watched and owned seasons 1-5. Seasons 1-3 was really good and entertaining, but it seriously started to drift off into the "why is this still on tv?" land in the middle of season 5. I gotta admit though, the commercial for the upcoming season looks pretty interesting.. probably won't be able to catch it though because of work.
Isn't this the final season? They need to shake it up and take a new direction because, as it is, the show is very tired. They need to tie the new episodes into a coherent theme that catches the imagination and takes the show up a notch. Based on history, that is unlikely unless they get new writers.
It was until Gough and Millar left. Now they have shifted more towards this overall Metropolis theme that will include more super powered characters (both good and bad) from both the Superman mythos and other DC franchises that we all know and have been hinting ever since before this last comic-con that season 8 might not now be its last season. They also have hinted that there will be a shift in their "No Tights/No Flights" rule (that has basically been an ironclad rule since day one) in that one half of this rule will finally disappear. Most have speculated that by the end of this season Clark will finally be air born due to the fact that if the costume were to show up it would mean the end of the series as it would no longer be a prequel story.
I don't know if they can successfully pull it off but let's see. I'm willing to give it a chance. But if they return to the "freak of the week" stuff like during the first couple of seasons without a coherent plot line, forget it. It would also help if they ditched the smart-alecky dialogue. A couple of other pipe dreams I have is finally dumping Lana Lang, getting a new actress for Lois Lane and returning John Glover (Lionel Luthor) to prominence. He has more acting skill in his pinkie than everyone else on the show combined.
Well then I have some good and bad news for you. Good News: The freak of the week syndrome that mired the first few seasons is basically gone. They are now moving towards the gallery of rouges of the superman comics. Lana is no longer a regular. She will only appear in a few episodes this year during sweeps. They are now moving towards the very beginnings of Clark and Lois. There will be hints of what will come in the future but no romantic relationship as per say. Bad News: As for John Glover he will no longer be on the show as Lex killed Lionel last season by pushing him out his office window of LuthorCorp. Oliver Queen (Hartley) returns to make Metropolis his home. He finds himself at a crossroads, forced to travel through some dark terrain – especially when demons from his past are reawakened. Oliver ultimately begins to question his role as a superhero, just as Clark is embracing his own. With a new fiancé and puzzling new abilities that intrigue her as much as they frighten her, Chloe decides to turn her attention toward helping others.
