Oprah to Palin: I Can Pencil You In Later
Posted Sep 5th 2008 11:41AM by TMZ Staff

Oprah has issued a statement to TMZ -- she won't put Sarah Palin on her show until after the election.

Here's the statement: "The item in today's Drudge Report is categorically untrue. There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show. At the beginning of this Presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over."

For the record, Barack Obama has been on "Oprah" twice -- in January, 2005 and again in October, 2006 -- before he announced his run for Prez.

Given that none of the other candidates have been invited either, it seems so.

...in 2005 and 2006. She has kept her promise that her show wouldn't be a platform for any of the candidates. Obama was not a candidate either time he was on her show. He hasn't been on since he announced his candidacy.

EDIT: Why did I even respond? I'm so ashamed of myself... :(

It was so obvious that Obama was campaigning for Pres, particularly the 2nd time he was on the show. The papers might not have been filed yet, but it was obvious. In terms of equal attention, it's a total lay-down. She is seen with him in public over and over again. Michelle has been on the show. No love for Palin at all, despite Obama previously taking up womens' causes.

For her to use that excuse just doesn't fly. It doesn't. It's cheap and political and she should suffer the fall-out from it. She chose race. Plain and simple.

Fox News should come out with their own female black hostess talk hour in order to smash this horrible horrible oppression by left wing telemedia conglomernations.

Her statement, which you quoted, says that she made a decision when she threw her support to one candidate (Obama) to not have candidates on her show after that point. Her interviews of Obama predate that decision. It seems to me like a well-reasoned and principled stand, and she has been true to her word and consistent in its application. Kudos to Oprah.

'Chooses race, party over women, neutrality.'

That's pretty demeaning to expect all women to vote for another woman just because they're of the same gender.

And it's also demeaning to say that an African-American (Oprah, who I'm sure most of us would gamble leans left) voted for Obama just because of race.

You managed to get racism and sexism in a 9 word thread title. Good job!

I see the point of her defenders in the strictest sense of papers being filed, but Obama has been planning to run for president since Steve Francis was first a Rocket--- think how long ago that was!!!!!!

This is absurd... and more of the same from TJ. The McCain came out today and said Palin was going back to Alaska to learn stuff...

That the Repubs would even consider putting Palin on Oprah is ridiculous. They're stupid enough to confuse a military hospital with a middle school but probably not stupid enough to try and put an unbriefed Palin on with someone who has actively campaigned for the other side.
