I'm not aware if someone has already posted something along these lines. Me and a friend were talking back and forth and we came up with a couple of good game winning plays: Alston's game winning layup against Orlando: -In a game known more for Orlando's game tying tip in that was taken away by the refs, few remember that the actual play that gave the Rockets the game was Alston's game winning layup that put them up by 2. This win marked the first win of a 31-3 stretch in the schedule that included the historic 22 game win streak. Battier's season opening buzzer beater: -Up by 12 with 90 seconds left, the Lakers clawed their way back into the game and eventually tied it 92 a piece with 13 seconds left in the game. Not taking a time out, Tmac dribbles the ball and passes it to an open Shane for the game winning 3. Landry's game winning post season block: -Deron Williams had the ball down by 1 with the shot of going up 3-0 in the series. A Williams drive was blocked out of nowhere by Carl Landry, who finished the game with 7 points and 11 rebounds giving Houston a fighting chance in that series. Novak's game winning 3 to keep the streak alive: -The 18 point 4th quarter disappeared as a result of poor shooting and a flaming hot Ron Artest scoring 15 points in the 4th, including the last 9 to put the Kings up 1 with 24 seconds left. Tmac drew the double and passed it out to a wide open Novak, hitting his only field goal of the game.
Great thread. Add a poll. Novak's shot was awesome but I'll go with Landry's block and save against Utah.
i was watching live in LA on opening night (3rd row near half court, best seats of my life) so that game has to be my choice!
I honestly can't choose. All of them have some sort of significance to how our season played out. The Alston layup was the start of our hot performance that eventually led to us leading the conference for a short while. The Battier 3 was the first game of the season and got us off to a good start. The Novak shot kept the streak alive. The Landry block kept our post season run alive. An interesting note: all of these plays were the direct result of us losing a lead late in the game. Against LA we were up by 12 and they tied it. Against Orlando we were up by like 8 late in the game and a bunch of 3s put Orlando back in it. Utah's game we were up by 8-10 and they shot themselves back in the game. And of course Sacramento was down 18 before coming back to take the lead. I think I'm going to go with Novaks shot because it was the only play in which we actually were in real danger of losing the game, plus those were his only 3 points of the game. And its probably going to be one of the few game winning plays of his career, possibly his only play.
I think Landry's block is an easy second choice tho. I'm usually sitting down and relatively quiet during the game but that one made me stand up and pace around yelling obscenities at the Utah players on the TV. I'm not forgetting a game winning play am I?
Don't forget Stevie's outburst at the end of the Phoenix game. "Steve Francis has an old Stevie Franchise play!" Or something like that.
landry's block was probably the best cuz it was in the playoffs, but i loved battier's three..... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/i7SPT4BaKxk&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/i7SPT4BaKxk&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
It's on Novak...... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GHKWJ8yCqBE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GHKWJ8yCqBE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Has to be Novak's shot. Kept the streak alive, his first and only shot of the game, and he made it. I think a lot of people don't realise how hard it is to come off the bench ice cold, and make your first 3. Awesome stuff. Gotta love the white boy trash talk after he hit it too. Lol.
Novak's shot was great but to me it's easily Landry's block. I just didn't want to get swept by the Jazz and if we lose that game it's a sweep make no mistake about it. Even though Novak's shot will be a more signficant piece of history I enjoyed Landry's block more.
no offense, but landry's block just prolonged another 1st round exit, novak kept the 22 streak alive, that was our history made last year. and this year we're going after the larry o'brien trophy
dammit, just watching those two clips makes me miss Rockets basketball so much... I was hoping to just get through this offseason with life keeping me busy. I'm feeeeeenin'!
Yea... Landry's block loses clout because we lost the series, but I think what gives it some clout is that it wasn't just an average block. Williams was going strong to the basket and Landry seemingly comes out of nowhere and blocks the shot. I think its Novaks shot and then the block in a close second. Anyone find it weird that there have been no memorable Tmac or Yao game winners this year?
oddly enough its Battier's three for me. and I love Novak probably more than anyone on this board, but I was there for Bat's three. 6 rows behind the basket on the opposite end of the court just being able to see the ball go up and down and in and then celebrating like crazy amidst all the lakers fans after they were on our jocks about the run the lakers just put on made it all worth it. had i been in houston when Novak hit his three well I would have mobbed the court to hug him.
maybe not game winners but they were both certainly clutch at the end of many games which was huge. also i think we had a great PPG differential so not too many close games. And Tmac created the assist for both the Battier 3 and Novak 3 which is just as important.
Honestly,I'll never forget Landry's block and save against Utah..that's amazing and it sent the game back to Houston with game 5 rout ..damn I love it ..anyways.its postseason ...
