I have to say, I was deeply impressed with Palins speech. Now I know she has a lot of help writting it and such, but the eloquence of her words were powerful - a lot of catch phrases that I think will resonate and a legitimate offensive front unleashed upon Obama. The only negative I think some of her attacks might turn some people off as being a bit personal and vicious - but that was more so with Guliana. Overall, I think this was the best speech of the convention and up there with any of the Democrats speech. She's a tough cookie, and I expect the strength of the speech will be reflected in the polls. I do think overall the republican party are building their case more on personalty / "character" versus specific issues. But this was their best tact and strategy, and it certainly will be a tough tough race. I think Biden better start preparing for his debate - she's no walk-over.
It was horrible. She didn't talk about one issue at all and her delivery was pathetic. I was expecting something way better than that.
nothing special.....no issues, just talked about her family.. They could have left out the little girl licking her hand, and wiping the baby's head..
Well she did. They were character issues. She made a solid case about Obama's experience. She did as well as she could of. Sure, it's political theatre, but that's what speeches are. And it was effective, it will shift undecideds. It won't shift my vote, but it was an impressive speech - speaking as an independent.
When hockey milf said tonight that come January, we are going to start laying more pipe, she won my vote.
As a pretty moderate person, who actually thought the Obama speech was very well done, I have to say that this speech was pretty decent too. She explained who she was, she connected to the small town conservative base, she appealed to women, she highlighted her family roots, she highlighted the fact that her "little experience" is actually a little bit MORE experience than Obama, and she was fairly funny. I think she did what she intended to do and have a coming out speech. Her issues and views can wait for various debates later. Conventions are big Rah Rah parties anyways. I'm still on the fence as to her pick for VP, it will either end up being a non factor OR it will be a pick of genious, in my opinion. McCain picked a young, attractive woman with little experience, who can't REALLY be attacked by the opposition for her little experience, since she has more government and executive experience than the main opposition for President. I think she makes a very interesting race down the stretch, and her pick will either bite McCain in the butt (doesn't bring a swing state, doesn't know the ins and outs of Washington, etc) OR she'll be key to a victory (mobilizes the conservative base, bring women to the GOP, etc). I thought she delivered it pretty well, she's no great orator, but she didn't f it up either. People calling the speech GREAT are obviously republicans, and people calling the speech POOR are obviously democrats.
lmao...I knew I wasn't the only one who thought about that.....She wants pipe to be laid..lol..oh, I'll lay it for her
It was a well read speech. I really can't think of anyway that it could have gone better. Well done Palin. HOWEVER As of now it seems like the campaign is going to try to go the entire election without Palin taking questions from the media. This strategy will not work and at some point in addition to the 1 debate, she is going to have to think off of the top of her head, appear to be knowledgeable on what is going on in the world, and give explanations of her many scandals. Particularly now the bridge to nowhere project which she seems to continue to lie about.
She also has more executive experience than McCain... I guess she should be leading the ticket! And as a woman, she certainly didn't appeal to me.
I wonder if she did not come off too nasty and pleased with herself if you aren't one of the faithful. As an orator she is no Obama as she basically mentioned over and over. I don't think she is even as good as Hillary when Hillary got on a roll, but better than Hillary when Hillary is not on a roll. Overall she did pretty well. I thought great for awhile, but the longer I listened the more she just looked competent, not great. Did not seem to be able to ramp it up for an exciting conclusion. It will be interesting to see if she can be pinned down on such deceptions as her running for governor in 2006 plugging the "bridge to no-where" but now making her recent opposition her biggest asset.
i don't know why people want her to talk about issues on her first real national appearance. the purpose is to introduce her to the nation as a person, a family, a candidate. they have plenty of time in the future to talk and debate about their issues.
She didn't talk about the issues at all, and there were some outright lies in her speech (she supported the bridge to nowhere, and she hired lobbyists to earn more pork for Alaska). In addition, her (and Giuliani's) mockery of Obama's work as a community organizer was disgusting. A guy graduated at the top of his class at Columbia and instead of chasing money, he went to one of the poorest areas in the country to set up job training and college prep programs with a church-based organization! Haw haw haw! And of course, because he was in Chicago, it obviously meant that he was a cog in the Chicago political machine!
speaking-wise, i thought she was great; very well-spoken and confident. however, the speech didn't mention ANY isues and she was EXTREMELY vicious (now she's definitely not the victim the mccain camp makes her out to be), cutting and condescending with her remarks. let's see how the polls come out.
