[Madden 09] Anyone else getting this error in Franchise?

I just now got the same god-awful game-crashing error in Madden 09 Franchise that I got in Madden 08 which basically caused me to stop playing the game. It's a small, stupid thing, but I have so many other games to play that if something pisses me off, it tends to make me drop a game.

So basically, the player training feature eventually makes the game hang for me. I played all four preseason games, and I just finished week 3 of the regular season. So I'm trying to do player training for my kicker, and now every time I try to go into training, the game freezes. The training session will appear to ALMOST load, the little loading progress bar will be moving the entire time, then the game will just freeze and the music will keep playing. Now no matter what kind of training I do and with whichever player, the game just hangs.

Now yeah, sure, I could keep playing without training my players. But hey, that's a big part of the fun for me. And it's pitiful that the game would have the same error as last year. What the hell? Games never used to be this buggy. The age of consoles with hard drives has made developers lazy, methinks.

Oh well. Guess I can wait until next year and hope they fix the error. But they probably won't. F*** EA.

EDIT: Forgot to mention... this is for the PS3 version, but my brother got the same error for the '08 360 version (and he also gave up playing it out of sheer annoyance). He was waiting for me to see whether the error was gone to decide if he would buy it. Guess he's not gonna buy it.

I haven't got that problem in Madden 09..

However on NBA Live 08 for the 360 - i had a similar problem.
You know when you'd start the game and it would ask you 6-7 trivia questions before the game would start...
One day i turned it on and i answered a hell of a lot more than 7 questions..
So i turned it off and played later in the day - same problem.
Left it until the next day and decided to count how many questions i was asked before the game started - 34 questions i was asked - the game still hadn't started, but meanwhile the music was still pumping as usual.

Did anyone else have this problem?
Caused me to stop playing the game entirely - i haven't popped it in since.

But back to Madden..
What is the go with winning on rookie (i haven't played Madden in years) by 30 points - than moving upto pro and losing by 24 at the half.
I turned on All-Madden just for fun - with a QB and WR rated 99 in everything - only got one pass completion in 9 attempts. 5 times i was intercepted, twice was sacked and 1 caught out of bounds.

They scored every time they had the ball.
Has anyone, ever beaten an All Madden team?

Yeah the Trivia achievement makes the game take forever to load on NBA Live 08, delete everything saved for NBA Live and return the console to state when you first bought it. Should clear NBA LIVE load times.And then don't answer any of the trivia questions. NBA Live Nex-Gen > Madden Nex-Gen

what is your GamerTag Sydney Rocket? only game I really play online is NBA LIVE 08, the game is freaking awesome once you learn how to stop all the cheesers.

Miami Heat own on NBA Live 08. Marion has two go-to moves, and Wades stepback jumper can be preformed from any angel. Miami Heat > anytime on Live.

Actually, I'm having a hard time getting a challenging game against the computer, even with the slider settings all at 20. Opposite problem. Just one more thing making me want to play it less.

The freezes happen when I play back to back games

It'll screen will freeze in the second game while I'm picking a play. The game will continue, but you can't see anything.

EA is working on a patch for all the problems that have been coming up. Seems like they're taking their sweet old time with this. I guess the longer it takes, the harder they're working right?

It's a little pain but I always restart my PS3 after I play a game. Doesn't take too long but it's a little annoying.

Too bad the glitch I'm talking about doesn't seem to care whether I've played consecutive games or whether it's just started up. There is no fix, and since this is a carry-over bug from last year, it probably won't get fixed.

The franchise bug has been patched along with an array of other gameplay fixes. They went all out. I haven't touched the game, when the patch comes out in 2-3 weeks I will give it a try. In addition to fixing crashing franchises here are the other additions...

3. Stability issues with Madden IQ end of game popup: This has been fixed.

Workaround until the patch: Always choose “No” at the Madden IQ end of game popup.

4. “WR direct snap” exploit: Cheesers found an exploit to direct snap to a WR for easy short yardage gain. Not only are we fixing this play (i.e. we aren’t removing it), we are also going to be re-setting records for anyone with a winning record that has been found to be using this play.

5. Franchise Progression / Regression (or lack thereof): The lack of higher numbers was a tuning value that I think everyone agreed was just too low. This has been juiced up so you should see more realistic progression now.

6. Edited players don’t progress: Players were not progressing after their jersey number (or pretty much any other attribute). This has been fixed.

7. Stability issue when exiting Madden ‘93 in CE version: This has been fixed.

8. Deep ball glitch: Some enterprising gamers found a way to throw a deep ball while crossing the LOS and hit a receiver wide open at a decent rate. We addressed this by making sure the DB will no longer break on the ball when the QB crosses the line while throwing.

9. CPU running out of bounds: This bug appears when the CPU tries to switch hands while running to the sidelines. This is fixed for patch 2.

10. Penalty sliders ineffective: A common complaint from the hardcore community was the lack of effect from the penalty sliders. We increased these substantially for patch 2.

11. Field degradation: Another common complaint was the lack of field degradation. Our effect was very subtle, which was also getting overshadowed by our lighting and post effects, so we increased this effect for the patch.

12. Stability issue with the Eagles and a full ring meter: We found and fixed a rare issue where the gamer could run into stability issues while using the Eagles in mini-game with a ring meter that was completely full.

13. Play call screen hitch: We found and fixed a bug that was causing a noticeable hitch when exiting the play call screen

14. Prevent Defense issue: We found and fixed an issue where defenders sharing a deep zone/prevent assignment would loosen their coverage (because they thought the other guy was covering for them), which allowed the receiver to get behind them even though they were in Prevent.

15. Brett Favre stats: With the late addition of Brett Favre, we were not able to get his Career and Season statistics into the game for the roster update. This has now been added for patch 2.

16. Defensive Preplay Mis-cue: We found and fixed an issue where defenders would leave their man wide open in a Cover 3.

17. CPU quick-snap: A very common complaint on the forums was the speed at which the CPU snapped the ball. We added a random length of time (no less than 5 seconds) for the CPU to wait and even make pre-play adjustments.

18. Online playbook switch: We found and fixed an issue where playbooks were re-setting to the defaults after the playbook select popup was closed.

I got the freeze during my franchise today,it will not let me play any games after the first one of the year. I played the first game in my second year of the franchise,then when I select another game to play during that week or the next,it freezes. No matter what Ive tried,it wont do ****! I had won the Superbowl with the Browns,and had a surprise in the 1st round when my RB I drafted turned out to have an 87 rating. Now,all that is wasted. This blows.

I had a very similar problem in Franchise mode. Everything was going alright until I traded for Baron Davis and J-Rich. Then - when I was dominating a game like never before and totally stoked about the trade, the game froze. I was pissed - but I rebooted and I haven't been able to start a game in that mode since (Freezes on the 3rd trivia question every time). I haven't even tried any other modes...too pissed at the game for ruining my awesome team.

NFL 2K5 is still the best football game I have ever played. The presentation for that game still has not been matched today.

Will I have to start my Franchise all over, or will this patch affect existing Franchises as well?

I hope it will affect the existing franchise. I played every single game with the Texans,Browns,and Buccaneers in my first season including preseason,that's 60 games in.
